'22 TN DT Walter Nolen (Ole Miss)

So when this kid was projected to go anywhere but Tennessee he was this can’t miss prospect, the next Aaron Donald, etc. but now that he’s going to TN suddenly he’s a bust and Khalil McKenzie 2.0

Lol someone please tell me the last time a Rodney Garner elite DL prospect was a bust.. I mean the man coached Derrick Brown, Montravius Adams and Marlon Davidson. I think he knows what an elite DT looks like.

247 compares him to Leonard Williams, who was the 6th overall pick in 2014. Give me that all day long
Don’t be silly…the rando from Maryville is a defensive line genius

I still don't understand why you guys are trashing Sammy so hard just because you don't like his opioniin based on his observation and don't wanna hear it. Why make it personal?

It’s not personal.

His observations are stupid which is why everyone’s reactions are justified.

You don’t have to post 200 messages to get your point across
Apparently I do. Most here are incapable of reading an argument and parsing through the points to form a relevant rebuttal. Mostly I got ad hominem responses like "shut up douche! You're a idiot who likes high-school football like a idiot moran! You hate Tennessee! Douche!"

People have responded to your opinion.

They're calling you a douche because you keep repeating yourself. We're going on day 3 of this.

You don't have to swing at every pitch. Chill out.

I disagree. Most people have misconstrued my points (in some cases intentionally). They straw man the arguments and call me a douche. Lol

And feel free to ignore me if you'd like. You don't have to chase pitches either.

Man, you enrolled in Philosophy 101, this semester? You're really trying to cross off all of the fallacies. Straw man, ad hominem, I think you may have even mentioned the red herring, earlier. 😄

I absolutely disagree that appearing to be somewhat out of shape in 1 high school game has any effect what-so-ever on what happens with him, or any player, in 5 years.
I couldn't say that much. Still remember JJ Peterson showing up totally out of shape. Could barely pass his test. To me, those were not good signals. That said, yes it's just one small factor...but it's still there.

Like someone else said, who knows what's happening with Nolen. Moving and starting a whole new life can be a lot on a kid. Maybe he doesn't have the right life skills yet to deal with change while still grinding 100%. Many kids probably don't... but I cannot say it isn't at least a very small concern for how he might handle things in the future.

I may feel different about it if he made it to his first college game out of shape. That would be something to take note of. Enrolling and failing to get in shape through in-house S&C would be a pretty bad start. That's a lot different than high-school after a covid year and other factors.

There's my opinion and there's fact. He's out of shape. That's a fact that everybody agrees to. Do you think his showing up out of shape increases, decreases, or has no impact on his chances of being a "boom" vs "bust"?
Simple as that, really.

Showing up out of shape/overweight is one of the 3: a negative indicator, a positive indicator, or not an indicator at all.

Then there's the question of how strong the indicator is.

Imo it certainly is a negative indicator, but of fairly small importance...if he even was overweight/out of shape as being mentioned...I'd be more worried if he showed up to college (with all of their recommended training) overweight and out of shape or had done it multiple times. He's had a whirlwind of an offseason too, so I wouldn't make tooo much of it. But it's not a positive or neutral thing either if it is true.

A bit late, but missed the game as it was happening.

Callahan seemed pretty impressed by him. 3-4 TFLs, close to double digit tackles despite them playing away from him. Hurt his fingers and missed 4th quarter, I'm sure this has been discussed already, but anyway...

Someone asked if he gave Callahan "McKenzie vibes" and Ryan replied,

In terms of his ability as a player? No. I think Nolen is definitely more athletic and quicker than McKenzie was coming out of high school. As I mentioned tonight, Nolen doesn’t look out of place when he lines up at defensive end and rushes off the edge. McKenzie was just really strong compared to all the high school players he encountered.

They are/were both big defensive tackles, but that’s about where the similarities end for me.

True, you can tell be the replies and the likes to those replies that no one wants to hear any criticism. He’s the #1 recruit and they don’t want to acknowledge anything that might affect that rating or his potential.

Personally, I too would love for him to remain #1, play like it and have no negatives. However, it worries me that he has this potential red flag (real or perceived we don’t know yet). It’s not nothing. It might not be an issue at all but it’s least worth discussing

Getting this kid paired with CRG to coach him up is what people are excited about. We remember Khalil McKenzie all to well to just blindly believe a 5* DL is automatically going to pan out for us.

Can't wait to see this kid playing for the Vols.

Interesting question, do you think CRG would have been able to make lemonade out of the lemon that was McKenzie?

You missed all the things he said to make it personal. He didn't just say that WN didn't impress him or look like a 5*. He proceeded to say he would be a flop, never play in the NFL, etc. Trashed his work ethic, ability, etc. Then went on to talk about players on his HS team. For pages
