'22 TN DT Walter Nolen (Ole Miss)

UT is not very good so it doesn’t really need good players? I don’t follow the logic

Yes we need good players, I don’t contend that. Just saying a Walter Nolen on this years team, for example, isn’t going to make much of a difference in wins or losses because we are so thin in multiple areas. I guess it is same logic that this is a team sport. I’d rather have Nolen vs. not, but given all our other needs it’s not like Nolen alone will suffice.

he is overated won with bowden players has not done anything other than losing his ass in a divorce due to chasing coeds.

He went 83-23 at FSU and won a title. He won with his own players too. You can say he is overrated but the numbers speak for themselves. He also had Texas A&M in the top five last year. Fisher also beat bama this year and is the only team to do so thus far in 2021.

he took the job after the 2009 season, they won the title in 2013, hard to argue they were all Bowden’s players. He also came in as OC and upped recruiting before taking the head job.

There is a real, you’re a bust if you don’t win a title every 2 years problem here. Saban is the only person to do that, and dabo did it in a 3 year stretch, after that you’re looking at Pete carrol for a couple years and Nebraska in the 90s.
Oh and urban Meyer had a stretch.

I am pretty sure Saban, Dabo, Mack Brown and Fisher are the only active head coaches that have won a title. LSU moved on from Ed O and Les Miles was booted from Kansas. People sometimes forget how hard it is to win it all. There could be a coach I forgot.

With DT being hard to project from the high school level to college level what is the difference between Nolen and Kahlil McKenzie. There high school rankings are almost the same. I really don’t think it’s a big deal if he goes to A&M other than he is in state and moved to Knoxville.

When it’s hard to project you need as many guys with a high ceiling as possible, it’s hard for every team to project, but Georgia Clemson, bama, Ohio st. Are almost always strong on the DL because they bring in enough dudes that if Nolen isn’t bresee or chase young or Jonathan Taylor it sucks, but someone you brought in is.
It’s why the blue chip ratio matters, if you have 50% blue chip that’s 42-43 players out of your 85. Now day 50% are bust, well that’s still 21 good players. Add in 1 3 star hit or increase the number of blue chippers snd you have a good starting lineup snd maybe some depth more times than not.

This is not your typical Bama team that’s dominated all season.

They’re not even the best team in the SEC this year.
