'22 TN DT Walter Nolen (Ole Miss)

Tennessee hasn’t been relevant in college football (except to Tennessee fans) for more than a decade.

How and why are some of y’all are surprised by not landing a top rated recruit?
Oh I dunno. Maybe because we have one of the most widely regarded d line coaches in college football on the staff. Also, considering how much press tennessee has gotten lately, I’d say they are still very much relevant in the college football landscape. At some point these are the battles that tennessee needs to win. We’re gonna be stuck in “8-4 is a good season” hell forever.

totally agree.

but also to be fair he committed to a school that hasnt played in the SEC championship yet.

And hasnt won a natty since like 1939 i think.

I have been very quiet but it may be time to admit.

CJH can coach is butt off.
But…

He can’t recruit worth a damn.
This is going to be a problem.
Neither one of these things has been conclusively determined yet.

Tennessee hasn't yet beaten anyone who will play in a bowl game at the end of this season, and it's not fair to judge Josh Heupel's recruiting acumen while Tennessee has been conducting their internal investigation into violations committed by the previous regime. This point forward will give a much better glimpse into what he can do. He hasn't had anything to deflect the negative recruiting his targets have been besieged with over the last 10 months. He sort of does now, at least a little bit.

If Nolen does sign with Texas A&M, it's a big disappointment... not the end of the world.

We knew this was coming. See how good they feel after losing today and we beat Kentucky. Let’s be honest, would you rather him commit to us today and we lose or the opposite? Take care of things on the field and things will be fine. Still like what I’m seeing. Also, Nolan’s dad is a smart man.

Texas A&M beats Bama and Jimbo is suddenly the best football coach in the country.

Tell that to Malzahn and Chizik who got fired even though they beat Bama before.

Anyone who has anything to say about Heupel's recruiting, good or bad, before the 23, 24 classes are signed, knows NOTHING about college football recruiting.
Sad thing is Y1 is usually the "new HC bump" period. Pruitt's mess made absolutely sure that wasn't possible. Literally the same advantage every other UT HC has gotten selling a rebuild...Hype won't ever get because of that jackass Bammer.

Hype is going to have to do it the hard way...the really really hard way. Not saying it's impossible, but it sure stinks. Just hope we can finish out with 6-8 wins and the 2022 class sees the light and can build relationships.

This one stings, we really need some good news on the recruiting. Just don't think we're going to do much this year unfortunately.

We have to hit some home runs with transfers for next season.
