why post stuff like this?A big part of me wants Nolen at UT because I think he is talented as hell, but the red flags around him are getting harder to ignore. I asked a Powell coach about him and his recruitment in general. He said "for a kid that is supposed to be number 1 in the country, UT has only come to the Karns game, and Bama and UGA have never come and even visited. UT doesn't come see him at school or practice and neither have Bama or UGA. So if Bama and UGA don't seem to be interested, and this guy is in UT's backyard and they don't seem to make him a priority, then what am I missing and why is he ranked so high?" Which when you put it that way, does make some sense. To be fair, this wasn't the HC or his position coach, so perhaps he is oblivious to those programs involvement and being around.
I've also heard there are concerns about his motivation as his family only seems to care about how much they can get out of his recruitment. I know mom met with Maryville and just flat out asked "what are you going to do for me" and Maryville told them to move on and then called Alcoa HS and let them know not to waste their time since mom had her hand out.
Bottom line; if UGA, Bama, and Rodney Garner aren't that interested....that's 3 strikes and you're out for me and I'm ok if we don't get him if that is the case. Those are 3 expert opinions on a player that will far outweigh mine or anybody else's as far as I am concerned.
It might be that he's bored given the level of competition, but no matter who you're going against, you either have that internal drive or you don't. Gotta wonder if there's concern about his desire and competitive fire. That's something I'm not sure you can coach into a kid.I've seen stuff like this before. First I've heard about Bama and UGA not going to see him at all. If true, that's very telling, don't you think?
On occasion when I've seen high school players that went D1 and eventually pro, they stuck out like a sore and dominated. I've never seen Nolen play, so I can't personally testify that he does this at the high school level......... but he should be.It might be that he's bored given the level of competition, but no matter who you're going against, you either have that internal drive or you don't. You might be right but maybe only for this recruiting year. Nolen did no off season workouts, and was in the worst physical condition I have ever seen for a Extremely rated athlete. This year, he has taken a number of plays off each possession and is still in terrible condition. He appears to be lazy but the plays he wants to play, he is unstoppable. If his attitude is good, he can be a game changer. If he attitude is bad, he can tear a program apart. My question is, can we depend on him to give his all for Tennessee if he changes his mind and signs with us? At this time, I am not sure if he is worth the effort. If it's true that Tennessee has done minimal work in this recruitment this fall (only attended one game, never watch him at practice or visit the school, etc.), that should tell us all we need to know.
I'm not necessarily as alarmed by UGA or Bama's lack of recruitment if they have a shadow of doubt because Nolen is fairly easily replaceable for those type programs.
But he would be a landmark recruit for a rebuilding program like Tennessee, and he is right in their backyard. If for no other reason other than the optics of landing a kid of this magnitude. The fact that we've allegedly put forth a barely passable effort in keeping him here is pretty damning evidence.
Wut!? His first two classes were loaded with TN kids. Even the 17 class (his last full class) he landed 4 of the top 10 and had Higgins committed and lost him. He was never getting Jacoby Stevens and he misevaluated Jacob Phillips but other than that, the rest of the top 10 did very little at their college choices.one huge knock on butch was not even trying on big in staters. i do trust rodney garner.
I think you may have misinterpreted my intent. I'm not making a case that we should be giving more effort in recruiting him.You might be right but maybe only for this recruiting year.
