'22 TN DT Walter Nolen (Ole Miss)

Would love to hear De1's response. Can't speak to Akers, but regarding Newton there was an ESPN article circulating after the fact that accused Newton of claiming a $200k offer and seeking $180k from MSU. Months before it all became news, someone on the MSU side told me Newton received $140k. Who knows what the true number is. Regarding Brian Darden, we outbid MSU and secured his services for $160k and that was in the 90s.... Would be interested in knowing what it would have taken to get Akers and Nolen. The NIL stuff adds a whole new layer of complexity to this... OSU freshman QB Quinn Ewers received a $1.4M deal and is currently buried on the depth chart as their 3rd string QB. One of Bryce Young's deals is worth more than $800k...

I think De1's point is valid... we aren't going to land the top ranked players in the country as long as our guys are only receiving deals from local air conditioning services and off-brand apparel companies. When our guys start receiving deals in the neighborhood of $1M, I believe we can contend for elite prospects again. Until then, I'm not expecting to land guys like Walter Nolen or Arch Manning.

After the boneheaded comment from de1 about being present for shady deals I don't know when we'll see him again. May be looking for a new side hustle. Lol!

Btw........UT might have tried to pony up to Akers, but he was an FSU lock for a while. It wasn’t that close.

Nolen will be closer to Albert Haynesworth (2.5 career sacks) than he will John Henderson (Outland Trophy winner)

Nolen is surely concerned with NIL money as well as $500 handshakes from boosters. Arch Manning gives it no thought at all.

That’s not really fair. I don’t know the Nolen families situation, but realize some kids/families could benefit from NIL deals. Safe to say, Arch is doing just fine.

Bad example on my part. I didn’t mean Arch specifically just elite prospects in general. Named him because he’s ranked #1 like Nolen. I don’t think think we have snowballs chance in hell with Arch. He’s a Georgia Bulldog or LSU Tiger IMO.

Akers has never really lived up to the billing. Now he has had some good games. But he hasn’t played elite level consistently either in college or the pros so far.
3,361 total yrds at FSU......34 total TD's.......averaging 18 touches a game? Pretty good on a crappy team
Had a good rookie year for the Rams and is injured this year.
