'22 TN DT Walter Nolen (Ole Miss)

A&M has a chance to sign the best class ever. They already have the #2 and #4 players (Nolen and Stewart) in addition to leading for 4 more top 20 players. They’ve also got 6 other top 100 players committed and Brownlow-Dindy (#7) a heavy lean now that OU lost their coach (his dad is a pastor in College Station.

They could conceivably sign 7-8 or more 5* players. They have a lot of recruiting momentum.

Recruits look at situations differently than fans do.

Jimbo out here recruiting like it’s NCAA Football ‘14

Which is weird bc they were one of the most underachieving teams in the whole sport. Jimbo just isn’t good and these kids keep falling for it.

It's in the bags. But their effect is going to be diminished in the next few years as NIL gets more established, especially when players have one free transfer after signing.

Well, to be true, if you don’t have a QB, your team is largely not going to be successful. Imagine if Joe Milton doesn’t get injured. You’re looking at a 4-5 win team at most.

Calzada was a mediocre QB who had one good game. Just there you can see what good QB play does for you. A&M’s defense was very good, and you can say whatever you want to about Jimbo’s time at FSU - but he still recruited those players. It was common knowledge that he was unhappy at FSU due to poor facilities (which didn’t help him recruit), so it’s no wonder they fell off. His time at A&M is similar to what Kirby Smart has done at GA - good defense, not so good offense - except that Kirby coaches in the East.

It’s kind of like the fans of most programs - when a new coach is hired - they expect them to be Nick Saban almost instantly. Well, there’s only 1 Nick Saban, and maybe 2-3 other elite or close to elite coaches in college football. You are elite by 1 coaching and 2 recruiting. Fisher is definitely recruiting at an elite level.

Bold to assume Milton wasn't headed for the bench if he had kept playing poorly. This season wasn't saved simply because Milton got hurt.

Jimbo is not that good of a HC.

He rode success off Jameis Winston while he was at FSU.

His Texas A&M teams are so inconsistent for the amount of money they’re paying him.

He’s not winning the West anytime soon.
I actually think you're right. However he's a good salesman and will get players regardless.

That's one beautiful thing about the portal. If he doesn't prove he can win... a lot of these guys will leave. It is about to be hard for guys like Fisher and Les Miles to get by just by being good recruiters. They're better versions of Butch Jones.

A lot of kids view college as a way to get to the NFL. A&M puts kids in the league regardless of what their record is.

And still go on to only win 8-9 games.

It’s sickening to know how much talent we’re NOT signing from the state of Tennessee. We’re being pillaged.
