'22 TN DT Walter Nolen (Ole Miss)

Not what Bradley is saying. Kid wanted to be sure he didn’t take away from other kids who were trying to get college scholarships because he had his if he went there. Watch him at games and saw him check on a ref that got ran over. He’s had some issues in the past but looks like he may have grown up and matured. Some kids do that.
I did a few years ago, just in time for my 57th birthday... 😎

Why does Ole Miss have a shelf life? If the expanded playoff had been around the past few years, they would have made it this year as well as in 2021. Ole Miss isn’t a place where you’re going to compete for titles year in and year out, but honestly there’s probably only about 10-12 of those programs in the country. Getting paid $9 million a year at a place where just making the playoff is considered a great season is a pretty good gig.

And I doubt Kiffin goes anywhere after next year. If you look at the potential job openings, the only one that would probably pique his interest is Florida, but that will be Jedd Fisch’s job. Miami could be a possibility but they would have to have an absolute dreadful year for Cristobal to be in jeopardy.
Jedd Fisch to Gainesville?

Congrats to Nolan. He can take plays off, underperform, and fleece money at his second SEC school
We could really use a player like him on the defense. You guys are coping hard. Kiffin is doing a very good job at ole miss. If we understood our deficiencies and attacked the portal for them like they did we’d be ready to compete next year.

You don’t think Heupel understands the team’s deficiencies? Also he’s hitting the portal for what he wants, just not buying everything that’s out there.

I also think Kiffin is doing a good job. He’s 33-15 over 4 seasons. But so is Heupel at 26-12 over 3 seasons. So both strategies appear to work just fine.

UT handled him when he was on a much more talented d-line at A&M. Won’t be a problem (if we were to play ole piss) to handle him on d-line at ole Miss, even if he is lined up next to baron. Ole Miss paying a lot of money for a bunch of dudes that all think they are the alpha and play only for the name on the back of their jerseys. Those situations usually don’t end well.

Nolen has always been highly rated based on potential and not production. Maybe he realizes it at Ole Miss, but I have my doubts.

Recall that CRG wasn’t sold on Nolan out of high school. I suspect his view hasn’t changed with what he has seen. If CRG isn’t for getting him, I’d say we handled the portal just fine.

I'm sure we'll never know, but I wonder how much of the portal $$$ Ole Miss doled out was Lane's personal money?

Yeah clearly it’s only hype right? lol. So let’s see. According to CBS, the NFL has JerZhan Newton as the first DL drafted. His stats:

26 solo tackles, 7.5 sacks, 8.5 TFLs

Nolens stats:

20 solo tackles, 4 sacks, 8.5 TFLs

Vol fans need to get over it. Nolen is a very good IDL. We could have used him this year and he would have instantly became our best DL. But yeah it’s only hype 🙄🙄🙄

Thank goodness. No, not sour grapes, actual relief.
Yeah thank goodness we didn’t get an elite DL. He wasnt a trouble maker at TAMU and I am willing to bet we don’t hear about him being a problem at Ole Miss either. Yes it is absolutely sour grapes. I bet you were super excited about Cade Mays coming here after he sang F Tennessee right?

No he hasn’t
Yes he actually was more productive last year when you consider Omarr played in two and a half less games. Missed two games and was suspended the first half of the UTSA game

Norman-Lott 5.5 sacks, 26 tackles, 6 for loss in 9 1/2 games

Nolen 4 sacks, 37 tackles, 8.5 for loss in 12 games

Norman Lott has arguably been more disruptive. Its close though.

Either way we are A-Okay on the d-line next year.

For all his deficiencies, Kiffin’s players love him and he can recruit. God help us when UF comes to their senses and hires him.

You have a great point. I’m not in a debate over who id rather have. What I am saying, is that defense has been an issue for 3 years. And that defense is why we didn’t upset bama or beat Florida. Its why we missed the playoffs last year. If we don’t fix the defense, and the offensive issues end up not being a joe problem, next year is going to be very average. I didn’t think that was a hot take opinion.
