'22 TN DT Walter Nolen (Ole Miss)

First let me say I like both players I am referencing and I am not bashing either player. I wonder if they same people calling Nolan a cancer, prima donna, etc.. will also use those terms for Boo Carter? By all accounts - from teachers, school administrators, and coaches who have firsthand experience with him- he should be labeled the same as Nolan.
Not what Bradley is saying. Kid wanted to be sure he didn’t take away from other kids who were trying to get college scholarships because he had his if he went there. Watch him at games and saw him check on a ref that got ran over. He’s had some issues in the past but looks like he may have grown up and matured. Some kids do that.

Why does Ole Miss have a shelf life? If the expanded playoff had been around the past few years, they would have made it this year as well as in 2021. Ole Miss isn’t a place where you’re going to compete for titles year in and year out, but honestly there’s probably only about 10-12 of those programs in the country. Getting paid $9 million a year at a place where just making the playoff is considered a great season is a pretty good gig.

And I doubt Kiffin goes anywhere after next year. If you look at the potential job openings, the only one that would probably pique his interest is Florida, but that will be Jedd Fisch’s job. Miami could be a possibility but they would have to have an absolute dreadful year for Cristobal to be in jeopardy.
Ole miss cannot and will not sustain a performance that outlasts the likes of Bama or LSU. Auburn just got a lot harder to deal with as did MSU.

say what you want about kiffin, but he sees his team is close and needed a few pieces to get over the hump, then went out and swung at the players most would say are the right pieces and did what it took to get them. i guess next year we can see if his approach of trying to bring in the best talent in the portal gets him to the playoffs or if the Tennessee way of saving money and hoping this idea of not jeopardizing the team chemistry gets you from 8-4 to 11-1 and the playoffs
How do we know NIL wasn't used to bring back almost our entire OL? We got who we needed in the portal and so did Ole miss. Glad the playoffs go to 12 teams next year.

Wonder if they crash and burn next year or even have an okay season but miss the playoffs will their boosters have the stomach to throw in as much money as this year. Probably not and could see mass exodus from everyone.

Either way Ole Miss moves in the portal are emblematic of Kiffin. Eventually will crash and burn but what a ride. Will be fun watching next year.

It appears Lane has decided that he is not going to try to tiptoe to the playoffs by hoping to develop mostly above average players. He may not make it with high profile transfers but it looks like the model can work. If nothing else Nolan looks like future 1st round talent which will raise Ole Miss profile.

Trying not to be envious or covetous. Seeing him succeed at ole miss...just sucks.

Congrats on earning your bag, Mr. Nolan. Hopefully you go on to have a successful NFL career.

But I think you will learn along the way that money isn't everything. You traded what will be viewed as little money once you get to the NFL for invaluable life experiences and memories. But I don't knlow your circumstances, so maybe it was a necessary path. I guess I just wish it would have been a different story with you in orange and white.

I actually think ole miss's strategy is pretty smart. Next year starts the 12 team playoff. For a school who's never had much success, it makes sense to go all in on a year where it has never been (and maybe never will again, based on the way conferences are changing) be easier to get a chance at the national title.

If that requires putting all your chips in on one or two year mercenaries, so be it. The gamble is that if it pays off you'll have more notoriety for the future to sell to recruits. I believe the new 12 team playoff in 2024 is going to be *really* important for a lot of schools on the fringe of going from good to great, us included.

Agree with this

Reminds me of when Dan Snyder signed all the big name free agents in an offseason.

Want to say they got Jeff George, Dan Wilkerson, Bruce smith, Mark carrier, and I think Deion sanders plus others in one offseason.

They went 8-8 that year.

Chemistry matters.
That’s happened more than once to several teams. It’s amazing how many times that happened

Tennessee isn't saving money. The big money people who fund NIL are not giving as much as some other programs' big money boosters, and more than others. Tennessee the school and coaches have literally zero say in how much money is available for NIL. It's all up to boosters and to a lesser extent fans.

Ole Miss collective is 8 figures. That's their boosters, not the athletic department.

Lane is a good coach? When has he proven that statement ever? His record against the top 25 is terrible. He can talk crap with the best of them but he doesn’t deliver. Which is also why he’s still at OM.
He had a 12 team playoff team this year. Just needs to repeat the performance against an easier schedule next year to be considered a pretty solid coach by most. I don't think he or Eli are a top 12 coach, but hard to say either had bad results this year.

Lane is only average if that. He did beat LSU this year, so I suppose there’s that.

Too bad they don't play Bama next year. Kiffin is a fat turd, but I'd wish them well against Bama. They do play Georgia and Florida.

Nolen was never coming here. Not worried about him ending up at OM.
