'19 TN ILB Christopher Russell (Texas A&M signee)

I wanted to wait until after signing day to post my opinion however with him skipping his visit, I will go ahead and post it. I do not know Russell personally but with him being from same hometown, I have numerous friends and even family that are close to the situation. Both close friends and family of mine have been posted in photos with him on this thread. I never attempted to gain any "inside info" because I didn't feel it was my place to even try. With being an avid Vol fan I would of liked him to be a Vol, however he needs to make the best decision for his future.

With that said, I think he is making the wrong choice. He will have the same opportunity to succeed on the football field and academically at UT, ARK, or A&M. The one benefit he will not get from ARK and A&M is that he will soon be an after thought in that town. If he would of signed with UT, he would of been an instant legend even if he never sniffed the football field at Neyland. The job opportunities that would of been available after college in that town would be endless. It is hard to make a 17-18 kid understand that.

Maybe he doesn't plan on returning to West TN, and if so, my point doesn't matter. Wish him the best wherever he goes.

The "weirdness" in this thread is not an accurate depiction of Dyersburg. I hate the perception it has received because of this thread.

Now it's time to focus on the ones that we get.
Well said, how many times do the plans of 17&18 year olds work out?

Kid wasted our time if he doesn’t show. A real idiot. We really didn’t need this prick. Same as bogel and walker. Not sour grapes. Real character eventually shows. You won’t see me say this in Henry’s thread regardless of who he picks. He’s handled it the right way.
He doesn't owe anything to the worrying ninnies on volnation

All honesty...They do have a real good freshman......waiting with wild anticipation.

Some of my best friends to this day, who I met when we were all at UT, are all originally from that Dyersburg/Union City/Martin area. For being that far west, it's overall a pretty friendly area for UT.

The community? This part is what has been bothering me the most, of he picks someone else. Some will not forgive him being Tennessee fans, and some will turn away. I don’t want that, there isn’t anything else we can do. 😞

Just hope the next big thing outta Dyersburg is more loyal to the Volunteer state! Will be interesting to see if the story ever comes out on this one. He’s got a real attitude, with those tweets and stuff, that doesn’t match the normal grace and appreciation most recruits show to the schools who have pursued them. Very strange the sudden vitriol he has towards his home state school, especially since we’ve been so competitive in his recruitment. Least he’s not going to a rival 🤷‍♂️

Most of the weirdness in this thread can be placed directly at your doorstep

Especially being as big of Vol fans as OD tried to lead everyone to believe this family, AND CHRIS, are. Chris and his family are such huge Vol "fans", he wouldn't even visit.

Him cancelling his OV to TN makes him look so much worse in TN fans eyes esp to those in Dyersburg. This is the first legit football player they have had in a long time. That small town would love to see one of their own wear the TN Orange. Fair or not that will be held against Russell for a VERY LONG TIME esp in that small town

I'm so sick of watching all of these posts about he's being unloyal, and he's not gonna pan out, he was just a back up option blah blah blah. Pop a tit in your mouth and deal with it. You don't even know what went down to cause the sudden turn around and it's a whole lot of misinformation on here. I talked his dad and he told me about some pretty messed up stuff that happened between the Arkansas visit and Friday. And all of this stuff about support, if anyone on here from this town doesn't support him because he chose to go somewhere different, they really didn't support him to begin with. They supported their own personal agenda for him. Good luck kid. I support you even if the rest of these overzealous leeches don't.

Yeah it really hurt Patrick Willis....

I know very little about this kid’s recruitment but I have a feeling that he isn’t the villain, spurning the home state, that many are making him out to be. Recruiting is a dirty animal, most often, and a lot goes on behind the scenes.

Well, if you know something contrary to what has been posted that has led people to believe that he intentionally led TN coaches on because he did not get an offer at camp, then please share. Otherwise people are going to go with that.

Didn't see the tweets or comments, but if what you say is true, I have to wonder if something has happened to lead UT another direction and they no longer have a spot for him? As you pointed out, if kids are playing the game and enjoying the courtship of recruiting, you wouldn't burn bridges at this point unless you were jilted so to speak. If this means we get Harris, Pickens or Harry T., I'm beyond thrilled with our finish.
