after visiting tennessee in late march to attend one of its spring practices, kane patterson now is ready to take a closer look at the vols. The four-star junior linebacker from christ presbyterian academy in nashville, tenn., told 247sports' steve wiltfong that he's planning to return to tennessee this weekend for his second visit with the vols in less than two months.
The 6-foot-1, 227-pound patterson is coming off a trip to stanford last weekend. He also has visited lsu, alabama, ohio state and wisconsin within the past two months. He said he has stayed in contact with first-year tennessee coach jeremy pruitt's staff, led by defensive coordinator kevin sherrer, since his most recent trip to knoxville on march 24, and he's looking forward to getting to know the vols' coaches even better this weekend. "i want to spend more time with coach pruitt and coach sherrer," patterson said. "me and coach sherrer have been talking a good bit."
patterson added that "stanford will be a big contender for me."

"A little more on 4-star linebacker Kane Patterson of Nashville (Tenn.) CPA, who I wrote about Tuesday morning Yes, his father went to Auburn. But he also went to Alabama. He started college in Tuscaloosa and was a Tide walk-on football player. He then transferred to Auburn, where he earned his degree. He did not play for the Tigers. This may be tough for some of you to stomach, but Patterson told me he likes both programs. Hell visit Auburn in June".

Finally, Tennessee will host in-state linebacker Kane Patterson again this weekend. The 4-star was on campus in late March and has visited a number of schools in the last six weeks (Stanford, Ohio State, Alabama, Wisconsin). The C.P.A. linebacker is still recovering from a knee injury suffered last season, but hopes to camp at several schools later this summer.
Patterson hasn't participated in any camps because he's coming off surgery to repair a torn ACL he suffered last season. He should be cleared by this summer. He told me yesterday that he's not planning to attend any camps this summer, so it will be interesting to see how Tennessee handles his recruitment over the next few months. I think he's clearly in play for Tennessee, but is he a guy the Vols are 100-percent sold on without seeing him in camp or at least seeing him during his senior season?
That said, he has nearly 30 offers, so frankly he's a kid who probably doesn't need to camp at this point to have some pretty good options. Stanford, Alabama, Auburn and a bunch of other major programs are recruiting him pretty hard.
I have a better view, for sure, just getting to spend more time with them, just kind of getting to know them more just kind of who they are and kind of how they run their things, said Patterson. Theyre for sure one of the teams that I think Ill be in contact with til the very end. Theyre high on my list. For me, its just the new staff, Patterson said. I really like the new staff the new staff and just kind of where the programs headed in a couple years.
Patterson said Fitzgerald showed me the new weight room, which is pretty sweet, and he also attended an academic meeting between his conversations with Pruitt and Sherrer. All this stuff was pretty new, because last time we got to see coaches for a second, watch practice, then talked to Coach Pruitt and left, Patterson said. "It was nice getting to spend time with everybody this time.
My dad and my little brother were with me, and we just sat in his office and talked for a while, Patterson said of Pruitt. It was kind of football talk this time. He just said he watched my film and stuff, and he just told me what he wants me to work on going into my senior season. I really liked that, Patterson said. Coach Sherrer and Coach Pruitt are my type of coach. I love coaches that have feedback on my game play and stuff like that, just telling me what they think I can do better.
There was a great part in that article. Pruitt is crazy good at eval. He told Kane that he noticed in games that he ran the ball 20 times on offense he would get tired on defense and put himself in danger of injury. Told him to not bend his hips as much and keep his head up.
The guy is ridiculously thorough
Kane Patterson, four-star linebacker from Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville, Tennessee, visited Alabama on Saturday. The talented prospect is taking several trips this summer prior to making a decision before the season.
I was there on Saturday with my mom," Patterson said. "It was awesome. Coach Golding couldn't be there. He was at a camp in Florida. "I spent time with Coach Saban, Coach Lupoi and Coach Enos. It was really good. It was good to see them and spend more time with them. It was great just to be around them and build more of a relationship.
"They were telling me just to enjoy the rest of my summer visits. I told them I was going to commit in early August. I will see them again on June 22. They said they were excited to get to see me again."
Alabama's linebacker coach may not have been in Tuscaloosa on Saturday, but that doesn't change the relationship he has built with Patterson. "I really like Coach Golding," he said. "With it being his first year at Alabama, we have built a really good relationship. I talk to him on a weekly basis. He makes me want to keep going back."
Patterson is recruited by Alabama to play inside linebacker. He will visit Ohio State on Tuesday and Wednesday. He is visiting Texas A&M on June 15-16 before returning to Alabama on June 22. He also plans to visit Tennessee soon.
