I've been following recruiting for a while now (7 or so years) and I've recruited kids to a university. It's very clear that if a kid takes OVs, and your school isn't one, their shouldn't be hope. Hubbs and co should've known better. The staff member who told them he was confident just a day or two before his announcement should've known better.
They had more info than us and the glimmer of hope turned them mad to not see that he was probably going to FSU, and Tennessee wasn't even the backup choice.
It is what it is, it's all done with now.
On a thread related note, Cade is easily a top 10 type of player in the '18 class. Somehow we've had some good OL commit to us. Guys like Jones, Boulware, Smith, Richmond were wanted by the majority of SEC schools.
Not officially
But he did visit. I never thought we were getting him. He made it abundantly clear he was going somewhere that runs a traditional offense. People just didn't listen. He probably didn't want to hurt RG. I think it made it worse because he obviously at least gave him a idea that he might sign with UT. It would have been better just to tell him honestly..Hey man I love you and you're my boy, but I don't want to play in that offense...sorry.

Mays has been committed for over two years so why is it important that Mays is coming to the Vols' junior day? One, Tennessee must continue to make sure that Mays knows he's a priority and the Vol staff must continue to recruit him. The other key factor to having him on campus this weekend is that he has been and continues to be a key part of the Vols' recruiting efforts. Mays has built relationships throughout the country thanks to camps and other unofficial visits. Having him on campus to help recruit the class of 2018 is big for Butch Jones and his staff.
