'18 TN OL/DL Cade Mays (Transfer)

So, does anyone over the age of 18 care about records of a high school football team? I mean, seriously guys lol....

I love watching high-school football. Good high-school football, that is. Guess that means I'm lame... Oh well.

I think my perspective is being misconstrued a little bit. Lots of strawman arguments going on. I'm glad we have Mays as a commit. He was the best player on the field when he was out there (Tucker was also very good). But to be a 5* OT, I would expect the player to be dang near a once in a lifetime type of a player to see in person in a high school game. He was a force, a wrecking ball, a giant amongst boys. His play was impressive, but didn't seem transcendental to me. Maybe my expectations were too high. Anyway, disregard all I've said about him if you don't like it. I'm not a scout. Just a guy who saw him in person against my favorite team. Carry on.

The thing is Sam, several guys who watched Trey Smith play in person last year had almost the exact same things to say about him. I think blue chip OL talent must be just very hard to judge.

I'm a Maryville fan and Maryville Alum and was at the game. Cade Mays is by far the best HS offensive lineman that I have ever seen Maryville play. He was not holding when he pancaked the Maryville DE. A lot of the Maryville fans were upset on how he was demolishing whoever he went against. I heard a few screaming "holding" but in fact it was a textbook pancake block.

The only other lineman I have ever seen dominate Maryville was when they played John Henderson in 1996 in the state championship. Mr. Henderson was throwing players around also. Same situation, parents were very upset.

Maryville was very lucky to win.

Sam isn't this last drive play that hamburger is talking about here, one of the same plays you were criticizing Mays for?

In the playoffs, Maryville is often the less talented team. Locally, Alcoa and Fulton are at comparable talent levels, but some years have more talent.

Alcoa is, what, 1/3 the size of Maryville, yet have comparable or more talent? My opinion of your ability to assess player talent just dropped off the chart. That's outlandish.

I'm done talking about Mays. I've said what I have to say and have tried to clarify my stance due to the strawman arguments continually put forth. That convo is over.

You said Maryville only won because it was at Maryville. Then you cite fumbles as one of the reasons. So would they not have fumbled at home? Serious question. Or are you just being ridiculous because you hate Maryville?

I'm not a big fan of Maryville but I can't understand the hate you're getting.

Alcoa isn't your typical small school. Don't know what to tell ya. They are always loaded with talent.

I am Fulton fan, so if there was a way for both teams to lose I would be happy. But every post you have made on here has been whiny about Maryville did not deserve to win, and yet, they won. It seems with all the mighty athletes on Catholic's roster that they should be able to find a way to stop someone from hanging 49 on them. But, that's just me.

Jesus ppl I DO NOT CARE ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL. Went to watch Mays, tucker, and now the Bussels (Something like that) kid. I was just defending a kid that obviously dominated his comp from a fan base that thinks their kids can't be blocked unless they're being held.

You're good. Keep posting.

Well, you deserved every bit of it and more.

Not really. The guy did not block well at all. Was not physical at the point of attack. What I wrote above is accurate in my opinion. You were not there. Other guys who are Tennessee fans saw it as well. I bet our coaches have seen it too. Doesn't mean he can't grow as a player. I bet his dad would say it too.

Also if we did have room wouldn't mind if that bussells kid found his way to Tennessee. Kid was lightning and did not receive the touches he really deserved.

Looked really fast. Nice frame too. Not a great offer list at the moment, but maybe it'll pick up if he keeps playing the way he did against Maryville.

I was at the game. I very much enjoyed it. Not afraid to say it, either.

I went to see Seymour and David Crockett High School on Friday. Not because there were any high level athletes. It was a pretty ugly game, but I do love watching high school football.

I was messing with you. Pull your panties out of your crack and have a Snickers. I didn't think you were too hard on him.

I'm glad every time Maryville wins. Maryville is often the less talented team. Nothing new for them beating a team full of power 5 prospects. Discipline and tenacity go a long way.
The few things that have always amazed me about Maryville is 1)The confidence they play with.No matter who they are playing they fully expect to win.2)They play hard every time I've ever seen them play.3)They show alot of sportsmanship to the opponent they are playing. They have an almost professional manner about them.I guess winning championships for so long will do that.I will be interested how well they do with out GQ.Probably still win alot I just don't know if they will continue to be as dominate as they have the last 15 or 20 years.

I expect them to have a drop off, but don't think they'll ever be mediocre. We'll see though.

They have the full community behind them also and that surely helps. I think that GQ left behind a great system and it is taught at all levels of football in Maryville. I too will be interested to see if they can keep it up. It sounds like that they looked great on Friday night. Catholic ain't no joke :)

Community support and a system that starts at the peewee level are both critical.
