'18 TN OL/DL Cade Mays (Transfer)

If Maryville doesn't obtain help by the refs, Catholic wins by 2 touchdowns.

FYP. Now, let me start off by saying that twice Catholic had a player taunt and cause a 15-yard penalty each time. However, there was 1-2 times Maryville should have been called for pass interference. The last drive of the game there were two holding penalties back to back. The first was performed by Cooper which was definitely holding. However, the line ref got flag happy and flagged Cade the next play because Mays literally manhandled the Maryville DE and pancaked him. Both fell to the ground because the Maryville DE grabbed Mays' Jersey and pulled him along.

Also, Mays was powerful. As a DT/DE he drew constant double teams. Heck, at the start of the game on the first drive, Maryville was constantly chop blocking Mays to slow him down. Mays isn't the quickest dude (has a nice gut to him), but he is a strong dude. Threw guys around all night long.

So they only fumble at away games?

Once again don't really care about who won or who lost its high school football for God sakes. The point is don't make up non sense about a player who is better than anybody that's ever played at maryville.

I'm done talking about Mays. I've said what I have to say and have tried to clarify my stance due to the strawman arguments continually put forth. That convo is over.

You said Maryville only won because it was at Maryville. Then you cite fumbles as one of the reasons. So would they not have fumbled at home? Serious question. Or are you just being ridiculous because you hate Maryville?

Probably should get out of the CADE MAYS forum then. As for the game just be glad you beat a team that was obviously superior from a talent standpoint.

I'm glad every time Maryville wins. Maryville is often the less talented team. Nothing new for them beating a team full of power 5 prospects. Discipline and tenacity go a long way.

Also didn't have any reason to hate Maryville to begin with. But your fans are very annoying, at one point several saying hope he enjoys being a champion of life.

They are well coached but to say they are not almost always the most talented team locally is wrong.

I can't speak to that. I was on the Maryville sideline right by the student section and didn't hear anything comparable to that.

In the playoffs, Maryville is often the less talented team. Locally, Alcoa and Fulton are at comparable talent levels, but some years have more talent.

He was obviously the best offensive player on the field. Looked more like a WR than TE but has a frame that appeared able to add weight. I am glad we are getting him and would think Sam is glad we get Mays. Sam is a vol fan. I love the passion our fans have and the love of the players we all have. I was also getting mad at sam but then realize it was just what he saw. Then thinking about the injury, it made sense. We need to always realize these kids are still prospects regardless of ratings. They have things to work on and thankfully can get better. As long as they realize it and work hard to get better, most will be fine.

Inb4 someone yells in caps YEW-UNS AINT NO VOLS FANS...

Seriously, I'm trying to find more info on Jay Person (the OLB at Bradley). I grew up in Cleavage (still work there) with one of UT's longtime football support staffers (who is a BCHS alum) but there must be a reason we are not considering him at all.

Yea those 2 fumbles on their own 5 and 15 along with the dozen penalties to 1 have nothing to do with it. Don't care about either team but don't bash a top 25 player for running over your team.

I am Fulton fan, so if there was a way for both teams to lose I would be happy. But every post you have made on here has been whiny about Maryville did not deserve to win, and yet, they won. It seems with all the mighty athletes on Catholic's roster that they should be able to find a way to stop someone from hanging 49 on them. But, that's just me.

You probably know Roger. Person has an auburn and miss state offer. He is a beast and plays angry. Saw him knock an admiral on his butt. Kid gets up in Person's face and person engages and other kid grabs Pearsons face mask and person picks him up and literally slams him to the ground. Ref looking at it and ran toward them. Person gets off him and runs to sideline as it was on a punt return but could tell he wanted to kill someone yet kept composure. Hope he is a kid we are still evaluating. He was best defensive player on the field Friday. Heard coach Floyd said he was the real deal.

I'm a Maryville fan and Maryville Alum and was at the game. Cade Mays is by far the best HS offensive lineman that I have ever seen Maryville play. He was not holding when he pancaked the Maryville DE. A lot of the Maryville fans were upset on how he was demolishing whoever he went against. I heard a few screaming "holding" but in fact it was a textbook pancake block.

The only other lineman I have ever seen dominate Maryville was when they played John Henderson in 1996 in the state championship. Mr. Henderson was throwing players around also. Same situation, parents were very upset.

Maryville was very lucky to win.

Maryville didn't play in the 96 state championship against Pearl-Cohn.

I think it was 97. And John Henderson was a freak. One man wrecking crew on defense and dominated as a TE on offense.

Yep, he dominated us (Halls) in 96. Scored twice from TE position I believe, and we lost our only game that year 18-14 to a team with at least 6 D1 players on it. Henderson, Fitzgerald, Beard, Ridley, and a couple others.
