'18 TN OL/DL Cade Mays (Transfer)

Community support and a system that starts at the peewee level are both critical.
I agree.I was always amazed at how well Marion County in the 80s and early 90s ran that spit back veer offense. Then I talked to a guy that played at Marion one day.He told me you know the coaches teach that offense from pee wee on up thru middle school.By the time the kids get to HS it's plug and play .I thought that was pretty amazing.

But he didn't dominant every single play after playing both ways on a hot humid August evening weighing around 300 lbs.

Et to Brute? Perhaps I had unrealistic expectations for the supposed best tackle in the country. You can say my expectations were unreasonable, but don't try to make it sound like I thought I he was garbage. Never said that.

I just think that anybody taking more away from your comments than what was there should take a step back. If you had qualified your comments with "it was hot and humid and he played some on defense too" or "he may still be struggling to get back into shape from his injury" then none of this would've happened. We on VN take personal offense, for some reason, when someone has a different view about football than we do. If it is about a long time commit that is also the son of a VFL and nasty lineman then hold on to your britches cause somebody is gonna try and taze you bro.

I don't think anything definitive can be taken away from the game other than high school football has begun and college ain't far behind.

Cade Mays was the most dominant player on the field Friday, but what can also be certain is he was also the biggest punk bit** on the field as well.

I can't imagine playing both ways on the line in August in the south. I just played defense and was completely tanked by the 4 th quarter every game. 45 years ago.......

His actions spoke loudly.

So we wanted Butch to recruit lineman with a mean nasty streak in them then all the sudden, they're punk a** b*tches?

You're acting like he can't change his attitude when he steps foot on Tennessee's campus. I'm sure Butch will tell him to tone down on his aggressiveness so we won't be having personal fouls called on us every down.

Mays is still a young kid who wants to be the best. His attitude isn't bad at all but I do agree that he can't be doing that on the college level or else, it'll cost us a few first downs. He's a great talent who'll be a great help on our O-Line.

A friend said he had 100 penalty yards by himself. What was he doing?

I know when he scored the TD he took his helmet off and put it right back on. He did this while walking to the sidelines as he was firing up the crowd. I have heard several people say he was fed up with the cheap shots he was receiving and did something about it. I have no clue how true that is or isn't.

His dad didn't take any chit, I really don't expect Cade to either.

Could you summarize?

I won't do it justice, but here it goes.

A caller made the same sort of statement about Mays being a POS. Ainge got really frustrated. He conceded that Mays needs to bring it down a notch, but players are soft these days. He would rather have a guy like Mays that you have to reign in than a guy you have to convince them to be meaner. he maintained that Mays is a good kid who plays with a mean streak.

I was at the game. Tis true. And I do agree with Ainge (read Volnukem's post above mine). You can't let things get to you. However, Cade isn't a POS. The dude plays nasty. And what Ainge had to say is 100% correct. If we take nastiness out of the game of football...then what do we have? Boring, weak sauce players.
