'24 TN OL Ronan O’Connell (Clemson commit)

I don't like the fact this kid got a legit offer from UT but is choosing Clemson, but are many upset because it's Clemson, he's an instate prospect, we need OL, he's good, we're not in on enough top prospects, or other? I'm just trying to understand the angst. Maybe it's more than one reason.
Im probably a little biased because he goes to the high school in my district. He dominated all year and was really really good in the state as well. He is a kid I would love to have because I personally think he is way better than his ranking.

Everything will be okay. No need to get worked up. We’re in great shape.. we just need to do a better job on the offensive line recruiting. This isn’t controversial internally or externally.

Why don't OL players want to come here? There has to be more to it than blaming Elarbee. Is it the system? Tennessee is a hot program right now. It should be considered attractive to a lot of recruits. So why aren't more OL attracted to the program?

I think this is all overblown but I would guess the system

O’Connell was absolutely a take, and was coveted by the staff. It’s a true “miss”, but who cares? Sure, the coaching staff does, mainly due to the optics— an instate is that they recruited as hard as anyone, and due to the fact that this entire industry is driven by competition, plus every coach has some measure of an “ego”. But for fans, this kid isn’t a generational type talent, therefore we will sign someone that will, most likely, fit right in and this thread will die like they typically all do.

If we land Mike Matthews, Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, Clemson, and USC all “missed”. Each of those programs have won a national title more recently than Tennessee, they all have sent more kids to the league in the last 10 years, etc. I remind myself that each prospect is an individual— a kid at that— that comes from different households and values each factor, style of play, development, academics, conference, proximity to home, etc., differently.

Let’s wish the kid well and let’s move on and get Satterwhite in the boat Friday. GBO.

I’ve got it under pretty good authority we weren’t pushing that hard and didn’t want anymore true Gs in the class. But hard to know as all the reporters act like we wanted him.
This seems possible due to the traction we seem to have with some guys that could be more versatile and higher on our boats board. Hard to know for sure unless it is put on record be VQ or something.

Seems like a similar prospect to Ayden Bussell from last year's class being from the midstate.

I hope Clemson loses every game they play but does a great job developing him.

Then maybe when he transfers back to us to get high end training he isn’t too far behind.
