'25 TN QB George MacIntyre (Tennessee commit)

Dude, all the private schools were doing it. CPA, BGA, Goodpasture, even David Lipscomb, etc. I got offered scholarships of varying degrees at every one of those schools. All were offering something. I won't defend it but they weren't the only dirty school, they were just better at it and in an area with a nice campus close to the players they were after.

Edit to add:

Despite the scholarships the cost and burden to my parents was too much. I ended up going to Apollo in middle school and effed my left knee up.. Came back at Antioch and screwed the other knee before playing one game. I was done.....
So were the public schools.

Two things can be true:
(1) it’s extraordinarily suspect that a “five star” qb can’t elevate his team to win in high school. BA had their worst season in school history last year, and then open the season with a loss this year. It’s unusual. Might not just be “the coaching” and George’s current ceiling might be much lower than we thought a year ago. He could be more of a project than previously thought. Which is ok
(2) yeah I trust heupel’s eval and I’m not losing sleep. Heupel’s Qb track record speaks for itself. George could come to UT as a three star and I believe Heupel could make him a productive SEC QB
This. But this position isn’t black and white enough for most.

Why the BA hate? Just curious. I didn't go but I got recruited there back in the 90's when they were winning championships..... Had a few friends who played there.
Went to BGA........'88 graduate.

Honestly, I had a lot of friends at BA. Just got tired of them beating everyone.....every year........

My first time ever watching BA, but genuinely curious why/how he’s a good coach but went 2-10 last year with 5 d1 players on the roster at least
Wade has won 4 state championships at Davidson Academy and DCA. DCA was 0-10 when he took over. He built them into a power.

He’ll turn BA around.

No.

What was your opinion of his performance last night? Other games?
Watched the 1st half of it this morning, his wr’s, ol and play calling didn’t do him any favors, he did have a bad miss on a post route but other than that played decently

I did not watch, but how does one call his leadership into question? Based off of one game, which is what some have done. Legit question, not being argumentative?

That narrative is in direct conflict with what pundits have said about him. (Not sure coaches can opine yet).
I was on the sideline last night and I didn’t see any leadership issues but I was also watching through my camera

You know George played 12 games last year and won 2 of them right? I’m not advocating everyone freaking out, but there is certainly enough evidence at this point to have questions
But yet as a starter as a sophomore with a good OL he almost led them to State Championship falling point short. Everyone sees the arm talent. These last 2 years his OL stinks period. GMAC is really good has great potential but yes like all QB'S has much to learn but also when he has dudes in front of him and he is comfortable he shines. Happy LORDS Day. In CHRIST Alone

I like George. Good kid.
Has tons of talent. All the tools..........

The "play calling" "bad OL" and "receivers can't get open" were the same excuses that were spewed last year (with a different staff) It's not just one game.
It's just my opinion............there is something missing. Almost too laid back. Maybe read too much hype in himself? IDK.

He's got a chance to be great, but I don't think he's a guy that comes in and competes in year one.........or two.

He’s gotta put on weight.

I will say (first time seeing both teams last night) that CPA as a team looked like a private school and BA looked like a 2A public school just by pure size

I've seen BA several times last season and the year before...........They don't have the talent they have had in the past. Neither does Ensworth.
The "recruiting wars" in D2 are being won by the two Chattanooga schools and Battle Ground Academy. They aren't flocking to BA anymore.

I still say GMaC is a true diamond in the rough..........he'll be just fine. He's just not a "generational" guy.

It seemed to me that they should have been targeting #3 on BA more last night. Jet sweeps, slants.

I could be misremembering and they did do it more than I can think of but every time that kid touched the ball, he got 10 yards

Yep. But he got away with what should’ve been a game-ending pick 6 and then didn’t get away with the final INT.

I’ve seen GMac play 4x now. Hope he’s a great college QB, but he’s not a great high school QB. It’s not his coach or teammates’ fault. At some point, it’s him.
Didn't see the game, so my opinion has nothing to do with Gmac's performance in his last game, However, I felt we made a mistake when we passed on Deuce. :( He really wanted to come here ,and now he will probably go to Auburn. I have always thought that dual threat QB's make it so much more difficult for the opposing defense.

Pretty much every public and private school does it now. Maryville, Catholic, Alcoa all do it for sure. I know Fulton does, even though they are not very good right now.

I know this is a UT message board and we always lean into the side of optimism, myself included. But…I’m not using last nights game as a singular point in which I’m now questioning George.

I’m looking at last year plus last night. I have been a little surprised as his lack of ability to take over a game, make key plays in clutch moments, find ways to win.

I think the BA coach last year was garbage by the way.

As far as pundits, if you’re talking national recruiting guys go…most of them have dropped George from a top two or three QB to a top ten QB in the past few months. Overall ranking drop of anywhere from 50 to 100 overall spots depending on service.

I think George has all world physical talent, but when you don’t win questions will start to pile up.

I think his drop in rankings is warranted. Hope I’m wrong! Heupel is THE QB whisperer in college football so overall I have zero concerns about the position.
I get what you're saying, but to use the recruiting services as a basis for a part of your opinion is a little interesting.

Not concerned. Has all the physical skills to be successful. Heup has took two qb castoffs and made them into draft picks. Give this kid some strength and conditioning and an Oline and I bet he looks completely different in college football. If not we have options.
