'22 TN QB Ty Simpson (Alabama commit)

Clemson had another 2022 QB visit recently and is likely to offer him soon. Cade Klubnik from Texas.
I think the Clemson push may play into our favor some. That has to be off putting to players, right? I think it’s just too much to be pushing a 17-18 year old to make a decision that affects their future, hastily.

Wrong! He loves the Vols.
Don’t hate him cause he speaks the truth. Dude has never hated Tennessee, he just speaks the truth, no matter how much it hurts.
He's garbage no matter how you slice it. He's the other Wolken...both Vandy grads. Just trolling his fanbase. Riles his young angry frat cuck fanboys up over everything and he plays them like a fiddle and knows it. He's laughing at them while he types it up...pretty smart though all in all. Just hate he's become that...

I'm admittedly not a QB scout by trade, but it won't surprise me if we are talking about Simpson being a bust 3-4 years from now. Coaches know more than me, so I'll roll with their opinion, but I can't help but at least mildly question the opinion of a staff who trots Jarrett Guarantano out there with such confidence.

THIS MAN!!!

To be fair, Simpson is only a junior. On top of that, he isn’t quite physically developed just yet. I look for him to get at least 15-20 pounds larger before he makes it to a university. He may even grow another inch or so. I grew during my senior year and went from playing safety almost exclusively at 6’2”...to playing loads of TE and WR at nearly 6’5”, where I’ve been ever since.

While that is possible (happened with my dad his senior year, too), it is not very common to hit a growth spurt that late. And Simpson is almost 18 years old, already. He is older than most kids in his class, IIRC. Physically, he most likely is what he's going to be from a height standpoint. Adding strength and weight is always a possibility.

Would be nice if he reclassified. Most likely redshirt but we would have Ty, HB and Salter all on the roster. Would flip our QB room quickly and all guys with promise. We desperately need to get the QB room figured out. Outside of HB who we haven’t seen this year none seem to be the answer.

Yeah I see your point and have to agree. I didn’t realize his age. He more than likely is where he’ll be from a height standpoint. A year or two in a strength program could take him to another level, especially with arm strength. He seems to be very accurate with his throws but I dunno about the zip he has on them. Hard to tell from film alone at high school speed.

I’d love for him to reclassify (he’s a year older than the majority of his competition in HS) take he and Salter and focus on getting Horn the next year, talk about what should be a stacked QB room in 2022

Yeah, the arm strength is an area of concern, at least to my untrained eye. Seems to be a lot of air under his deep throws, especially. That can probably be adjusted with added muscle. He is pretty difficult to evaluate because he plays on a team with little talent and against teams with little talent. I just can't help but think of the last blue chip QB we signed from a rural area that featured poor talent and how that turned out.

A qb's height was a bigger deal when most snaps were taken from center. Nowadays most offense is run from the shotgun. Height doesn't matter as much.

NFL QBs shorter than Simpson:
-Russell Wilson
-Drew Brees
-Kyler Murray
-Tua Tagovailoa
-Baker Mayfield
-Gardner Minshew
-Jalen Hurts
-Tyrod Taylor

The same height (6’2)
-Aaron Rodgers
-Deshaun Watson
-Lamar Jackson
-Dak Prescott
-Jimmy Garappolo
-Mitch Trubisky
6-2 isn't short for a QB anymore. Not sure many would disagree.
