I'm sorry, but it's widely accepted that's what happened. People like AP, Swain have all mentioned it before on their shows/podcasts as well. I'm not saying Ty himself asked for UT to straight up abandon pursuit of JT Daniels, but UT did one way or another to satisfy Ty.

Have we lost our ever loving minds here?

We’re gonna stop recruiting a RS soph transfer QB bc a kid in HS might want to come here. Yet the other school he’s being mentioned with takes the #1 pro-style QB (who is the #10 overall player in the country).

In what world would that make sense?

Not to be rude but don't want to dig through all that to find exact moments. Lmao Swain especially mentions it a lot lately saying "Ty simpson better pay off" ect stuff like that.

I for one, think it was dumb for our coaches to stop pursuit. You have to have a mindset of "win now" in this league. The Clemson thing, all it shows is Clemons coaches have that mindset and if Ty gets butthurt over it "oh well" they'll be fine with or without him. Whereas our coaches aren't and understandably so as confident. I guess they feel they have to cater to recruits more, which I get why. They probably do. But still it was a huge mistake to not go get JT or another transfer QB this year.

JT or a transfer QB would have barely overlapped with Ty so I don't see how it would have been a point of contention. Winning now and next year would have UT in a better spot with recruits, so Ty would have had a better team around him for when he got to campus.

Another part of this equation is that all the in-state media are talking this prospect up as a generational talent who likes Vols but will only come here if we're winning more games. Putting a lot of pressure on the staff to make this one happen.

We have a plethora of QB tallent coming up in the 2022 class that we should be in on Simpson, Davis, Martin, Horn and probably others. That's just whats off the top of my head.

The problem is if they put all there eggs in one basket and then miss and the other QB recruits go else where.

Not specific to this prospect, but listening to Charles Davis a few minutes ago he was discussing how all the elite prospects he talks to mention that they want to be on a team that has the best chance of being in the playoff. With the current structure, it means the same 5-6 teams will get the lion's share until something changes, such as playoff expansion.

But according to the pundits, that would be bad for football. Don’t want some scrub taking it a favorite. Might be a colossal failure like March Madness (blue font)
