'22 TN QB Ty Simpson (Alabama commit)

Yea he was quoted as saying he had “a big learning curve” to NFL offenses. It’s just a fact. This offense isn’t NFL friendly. No under center, no understanding full field reads. That’s my big concern for this offense. Basically every quarterback that has been in this system has struggled in the NFL. Every single one.

Heupel will adapt his offense to the current situation. To succeed at UCF where lesser talent is available, he ran a unique and high-octane machine. I'm confident his offense will not be a carbon copy here and he will run the O that best suits the talent and the players he has available. If Ty comes here, a talent that would never go to UCF, I'm sure we'll see JH build the game plan around his skill set.

the nfl doesn’t go under center much anymore either

look at Patrick Mahomes. He played in similar offense

But the recruits do especially someone of Ty Simpson’s caliber

With Drew Lock, I'm just saying he wouldn't have been on the 1st round radar if it wasn't for Heupel's offense. It's been said that Dooley helped better prepare for the League. But that said, I think NFL offenses are moving closer to College offenses so I see that gap closing in the near future.

As opposed to... what? What system has consistently produced QBs that don’t struggle in the NFL? Very few QBs turn into NFL stars, and even fewer can sustain NFL success.

Clemson Update

...
The next target slated to come off the board is Martin (Tenn.) Westview four-star quarterback Ty Simpson.

Simpson (6-2, 185), ranked No. 36 nationally, remains set to disclose his pledge next Friday -- Feb. 19 -- in an afternoon ceremony at his school.

In last week's edition, we reported that per multiple sources surrounding the recruitment, Tennessee stood on the outside looking in.
You rarely say never in recruiting, but barring a postponement in announcement date, the Vols won't be the pick despite Josh Heupel's efforts to kick the can along. Based on our info, we don't expect that to occur.

As we wrote in our Recruiting Big Board quarterback edition Wednesday, that left three contenders: Clemson, Alabama and Texas A&M. Notre Dame is being bandied about in the industry, but the Irish were way too late to offer and aren't a serious consideration.

Texas A&M -- whom we had cast as the long-shot of the three -- then took a commitment last week from Cypress (Texas) Bridgeland four-star Conner Weigman.

Jimbo Fisher's son plays for Simpson's father at UT Martin.
If Fisher thought Simpson was coming, he wouldn't have seized Weigman.

And then there were two.

We began framing Bama as trending with Simpson in the fall, based on returns picked up before and then after Simpson's visit to Clemson. If you'd have asked us late in the calendar year where Simpson was going, we'd probably have pointed to Tuscaloosa.

Trevor Lawrence was headed to UGA once upon a time, too.

You just have to be the last one standing.

Right. It has to do with talent and knowledge. When the kid has talent (Simpson) he needs to be given the knowledge to progress to the next level... Lincoln Riley, Clemson has produced consistently good QB’s because they recruit talent and have systems that can teach what needs to be taught for them to grow into an NFL QB... Alabama will start doing the same... (where the game is as opposed to what it was 4 years ago is a lot different Alabama didn’t used to have to have a stud QB to win)

If he comes here then great! But I don’t fault the kid for not. Honestly if I knew any QB that has the talent to go pro... (personally knew anyway) I wouldn’t want them to come hear. That’s not saying that Coach H can’t win with subpar QB this system actually makes it easier for the QB to put up great numbers...

I’m not too worried about the QB position honestly... I think Kaiden Salter is the guy

It’s more than that.

1. You want competition. It makes them better and you get the best end result

2. We want to win the state in recruiting. Important or optics and future

3. Ty is well connected and would help with the 2022 class.

As far as offenses translating....if you can make the throws and have it between the ears, it doesn't matter what college you offense you run. Teams want to know can you make the throws, and are you able to lead a team? Everything else can come with time.

I lost confidence in this after VQ podcast. Pruitt set this up for failure in attempt to save his job by offering his dad QB coach job and now They will hold that against JH that he won’t be on staff now. Unfortunately time to move on

Yep. I could see that being the case. Unless, they knew Pruitt was just using the dad to get Ty and he actually loves and wants to lead the program back like he's hinted at.

Thought Simpson loved our FORMER QB coach? Screwing him over to promote the dad doesn’t radish that out. 🤔
