'22 TN QB Ty Simpson (Alabama commit)

You should care about Walter Nolen. He is a game changer that we desperately need.

I think you're correct, we need Nolen, and any other beastly DL's we can get. If I take the emotion out of it (which is exactly what Simpson is going to do when he makes a 'business decision') it goes like this. CJH's offense appeals to skill position players based on it's own history of success. It doesn't rely upon a generational, or even highly recruited talent at QB to make it work. It schematically works. The Simpson recruitment is really about the assumption that he'd bring more of the highly talented instate crop with him. But again, I think the appeal for the new UT offense is there with or without him. As long as CJH can show that his offensive scheme can translate to SEC football, then WR/TE/RB's will take notice, and we have highly talented QB's in the system already in Salter and Bailey. So if Simpson isn't the UT QB for the 2021 cycle, we'll get someone else (Sam Horn come on down!), and make Hayden the face of the instate class on offense.

Where we must improve is the recruitment of the elite DL's. Nolen therefore becomes the #1 target in the class. That's why I'm so excited for Garner to be the DL coach, regardless of who the DC ends up being.

Joe Horn’s retired.

It's just such poor timing with how elite this in-state class for 2022 will be. Missing on Ty and trailing for a guy like Dallas Hayden (OSU lean apparently) is unfortunate. Locking down the state would have been massive for JH in Year 1, but we continue to struggle recruiting within our own borders. Pruitt only landed 1 of the Top 10 TN players in the 2021 class. We really need to get that fixed soon, as Tennessee HS football is getting stronger.

Simpson is going to be on the radio on 104.5 the Zone in Nashville this afternoon. Seems kind of foolish for him to go on a Tennessee radio station a week before he commits if he isn't going to go to UT.

Yeah. Surely he’s not trolling TN like that.
Yeah, I want to agree with you but...then my BVS kicks in and I think this kid is making a decision based on his head and will go to Bama, but then maybe he will make a decision based on his heart and go to UT.

Him not waiting to make the decision until the summer doesn't bode well for UT, IMO.

Doesn’t mean the same thing as it used to...over half of my southern middle TN town bandwagoned to BAMA years ago.

Maybe he's just been waiting on UT to give him a reason, and the hiring of a coach that consistently puts up pretty good numbers is it?

Just listened to him on 104.5. The young man sounds very impressive for a HS Jr. He also really loves the University of Tennessee and definitely dreamed of playing there when he was younger. Very complimentary of JH. Like some have already said, going to come down to following his heart or if he decides it's too much of a risk.
