'19 TN RB Eric Gray

What he is trying to do for charity really makes me hope he commits to us. I think it shows he has a great head on his shoulders. Its good in 3 ways. Money is raised for charity, he gains exposure, and he works harder to raise more money/shine with the exposure.

He'd be more than a change of pace back if he came to UT. He's good enough to be utilized in a variety of ways, not just out of the backfield on runs.

Pruitt: in my experience if they do it in high school they do it in college. If they do it in college they do it in the nfl.

Time is money: This kid does what he is supposed to do against lesser competition every damn week and I tend to believe stars can be found at every level of HS sports.

He single handedly whooped 6A Powerhouse Whitehaven. Got'em for close to 3 large. So, he's not just beating on private schools.

The 5-10, 185 pound tailback visited Ole Miss last Saturday. "It was a pretty good visit. Oxford is a great town," said Gray. "I love going down there. It’s close to home, it’s easy to get to. It’s just a great place.”

Gray is also scheduled to visit Tennessee on Saturday. He is looking forward to seeing what the Vols have to offer, but said that there's only one way another school could sway him from Michigan. "Because it's South and it’s closer," said Gray. "That would be the only way. If you can give me the same thing as Michigan, but closer.”

When asked about what draws him to Michigan, Gray quickly rattled off three things. “One, Ann Arbor. Two, the coaches. Three, the fans. They’re just awesome," said Gray. "They DM me all the time and tell me how much they love me and want me to get down there. Ann Arbor is a beautiful place. (Assistant) Coach Jay (Harbaugh), I think he’s doing a great job with the running backs, Karan (Higdon) and Chris (Evans), how he’s developed them over the years. I feel like he can do the same with me."

Gray is forfeiting his high school eligibility and suiting up for the Vols Saturday.

Ryan Callahan just posted update. Anyone got the scoop?

“Knoxville is a great town. Tennessee is a great place, and it’s not that far from home. It’s six hours, but it’s not that far,”

“It’s very similar to Memphis. The climate, the people are very similar to Memphis. There’s a lot of people I know from Memphis that go here, so it’s very close. That’s what keeps me looking at them.”
The 5-foot-10, 192-pound Gray said he had heard plenty about Tennessee’s game-day atmosphere before the visit, and it “definitely lived up to the expectations.”

“It was definitely a good atmosphere for the Florida game,” he said. “Even though they got beat, the atmosphere was still good.

“The fans, like they said, going into Neyland Stadium was a good experience for me. I’m glad I came to the game. … It’s definitely an experience that you have to get. It was awesome. Even in a blowout, the fans were still in there cheering, and that shows a lot.”

“Like Coach Pruitt said, they weren’t going to be very good this year, just because it’s a new staff, new team,” Gray said. "But I felt like they had some spurts where they could be really good. You could see down the road they’re going to be pretty good.”

“That’s what I’m doing with all my teams. I’m not really looking at this season. I’m kind of looking at, what are they going to be like next year? Who are they recruiting? What are the commits like? Different stuff like that.”

“He was just saying they need some help,” Gray said. “They need another running back — a change-of-pace running back, because they don’t really have one — and that’s how he was spinning it.

“They were definitely saying that I’m the premier back that they want to come. They want a change-of-pace back. They don’t have a back like me, and it’s hard to find one like me, and they want me to come to Tennessee.”

"He made a cut-up of what they were doing offensively and what I’m doing currently offensively and was showing me the similarities of how they’re running inside zone, we’re running inside zone, mid-zone, outside zone — different stuff like that,” Gray said.

“All the schools I’ve been looking at — Ole Miss, Michigan, Tennessee — I’ve been watching everybody’s offense to see which one would best fit me.”

Gray had been to Tennessee twice before, most recently attending one of the Vols’ spring practices in April. His stay in Knoxville this weekend, he said, allowed him to get “a good feeling for the town itself, for Knoxville.”

“I got to spend some time with some old friends I know that went to my high school, so I felt good about it,” he said.

“It definitely helped (Tennessee) a little bit. It definitely helped. It’s just, I’ve still got to look. I’m probably going to take two more visits, and I’m just going to make sure that Michigan is the place for me, make sure that there’s nowhere down south — stuff like that.”
Some of the Vols’ current players — including freshman offensive lineman Jerome Carvin and freshman running back Jeremy Banks, two Memphis natives — were among the familiar faces who spent time with Gray.

He still has two remaining official visits, and he said Ole Miss, Alabama and Mississippi State are his three most likely destinations for those trips. He also plans to attend at least one game at Michigan.
With Gray planning to be an early enrollee, he doesn’t expect to make a final decision on whether he’ll stick with Michigan until December.

“Definitely seeing if I could (stay closer to home), seeing if the things in the South are the same as the North, because I really looked at it from, the North is better than the South,” he said. “But I didn’t really take a visit to the South. I didn’t give it a chance, so now I’m going to give it a chance and see what are really the big differences and then weigh them from there.”

He admitted the idea of playing at an SEC school also is appealing to him.
"Everybody wants to play in the SEC,” Gray said.
