The Vols have yet to receive a commitment from a running back in the 2019 class. “They were saying that they just want one guy,” Gray said. “They just want one guy to commit, and then they’re done. “Their offense, to me, is very intriguing. Coach Weinke, he’s a Heisman Trophy winner. You can’t go wrong with that. I just want to get up there for a game and see how the game atmosphere is. Definitely, a night game against Florida, it’s going to be a great atmosphere.
“I’ve seen they’re doing pretty good in the run game. I like their schemes and different stuff — how they’re using the backs. Like Coach (Jeremy) Pruitt said, that West Virginia game was a lot closer than the score was,” Gray added, referring to Tennessee’s season-opening 40-14 loss. “I think their offense is doing pretty good.”
Some of Gray’s “friends and family” who have been to games at Tennessee, he said, have told him “it’s amazing at Tennessee in Neyland Stadium — especially at night under the lights.” He said his parents are planning to accompany him on the trip to Knoxville this weekend. During the visit, he said he will be watching to see “how they use the backs” and trying to determine whether he can “see myself in the offense.”
“It’s not so much the wins and losses for me with any team — even with Michigan,” Gray said. “It’s just the development of the team and the coaches and how I see myself fitting in.”
