I don't want him if Trooper didn't want him.....

kind of my thoughts too. Seems as if he was a talented kid with just a few probs Trooper would have been all over this kid.

If the info is correct that the girl was 13 and he was making comments about her in front of the family he is a classless pos. Can't imagine what reaction I would have if someone were to make sexual comments about one of my girls.

Is this a joke? That foul mouthed punk said the girl "looked older." She was 13 if memory serves and he made sexual references about her in front of her family. If that was my daughter I would have been arrested for assault and battery right then and there.

Always wondered what happened with that! Wasn't a member of vn at the time so I didn't get the scoop when it happened.

My comment was a joke... I don't regard Trooper as a great coach. Nor do I look at his evaluation of a player as solid.

I don't doubt this staff would take a player they felt was a risk. Orgeron knows too much about that from being at Ole Piss. If they had any reservations about a kid, they wouldn't take him.

I dont' consider Trooper a great coach either. But, he coached this kid directly and given this one on one interaction with an available talent one would think Trooper would want him if he was worth getting. Follow?

Edit:
apparently I didn't read the full article and was mistaken. Trooper did try to snag the kid up.

It's still pretty widely perceived as a bad thing. We had a player get kicked off the team a few years ago for daring to speak to a white girl.

That's pathetic. I hope you're saying a few years ago, as in 1960 something.

there are still some questions about how this will work out...

I am working this morning trying to talk to some people for some more clarifaction. With drop and add deadline having long passed I don't know how he can get in school right now.

If he can't get in this semester and has to wait till the spring then he would not be eligible for the 2010 season because he will have to do a year residency (2 semesters, summer doesn't count) somewhere before he is eligible.
Hubbs

He was a 2* recruit in 08, but if he was slated to start for OK State as a soph he must be developing pretty well...

Pretty sure, if they do, they have passed... This is a weird situation.

He will still be able to register for the 2nd session classes that start in October I think...

Scout had him as a 3star. Look at his offer list. That is not a 2 star offer list:

Tennessee
North Carolina (Butch Davis)
Ole Miss (Orgeron)
Michigan St.
Oklahoma St.

Coach Duron Sutton, on a 3 way conversation with Coach Orgeron and compliance are still working on getting Jamal into UT. Since classes have been on going for 3 weeks(?) there's the problem. Orgeron, UT, want Jamal and are trying to work it out. Duron got in touch with Mrs. Mosley, Jamal, on the other side of Jackson, near Lexington, and told them it was best to turn around. The rule as Brent said is summer school doesn't count; Orgeron and Lane want Jamal in January, regardless but are still working on getting him admitted. Duron wants him to go to UT so this is most disappointing but maybe something can be worked out. Other schools are telling him that they can get him in even though classes have started at their school. Another option since he's a qualifer out of high school, like former UT qb, Steve Matthews, go there for one year and then you still have 2 years to play out of 3. Duron doesn't want him to play this year so I don't know what will develop. Just passing on info from the high school coach. FOOTBALL GOD, you got Marlon Walls in; PLEASE let Jamal enter UT now and I promise I will not ask you for anymore special favors this year!

From TennStud... This doesn't sound good...

Ole Miss was coming off a 3-9 season, North Carolina 4-8, Michigan St. 7-6, Oklahoma St. 7-6 and Tennessee 10-4.

Other than Tennessee.... that kind of was a 2* offer list in my opinion. I am not saying the kid isn't good but the schools that were recruiting him were bad-mediocre.

This sucks, The kid has to be a pretty good player to start at Ok. St as a true Sophmore. Give him a redshirt year and you have to think he becomes a solid TE for us. But if this doesn't get worked out soon he may end up at Auburn from reading Tennstuds comments on rivals. But you never know if he is getting the whole story.

So what you're saying is, an offer from Butch Davis and Ed Orgeron (2 of the 5 best recruiters in the nation), doesn't mean anything?

That wasn't what I said. I just said those teams were coming off poor seasons. Also, I am not sure you can say they are two of the five recruiters in the nation. Have they ever been ranked in the top five recruiters for a single season? They are good recruiters and they know talent but I'm sure their standards were lower coming off 3 and 4 win seasons. It's not often you bring in a truck load of talent after seasons like that. The class Ed O would have been bringing him in consisted of one-5* and two-4*. I am thinking Ed O was settling for what he could and doing his best to find diamonds in the rough. Butch Davis did a little better with six-4* recruits in that class. Like I said, I never said the kid isn't good or that Butch Davis and Ed O can't recruit. I am just saying that offer list wasn't that great. Ed O has never won more than 4 games as a head coach and Butch Davis has only won more than 9 games once. These guys aren't really top notch head coaches in my opinion and the programs recruiting these kid are average at best. Just my opinion.

Does it really matter who offered? From looking at his stats as a true freshmen he played pretty well. He was second team behind Pettigrew who made some All American teams. I would think that would say alot more than who offered him out of high school.

Are you sure you're looking at the right stats? He had 5 catches for 57 yards in 5 games. Again, not saying that makes him bad but I wouldn't consider that playing pretty well.

Maybe you are right. I didn't see the kid play.

But I think playing and contributing as a true freshmen is a good sign. I also think him being a starter this year as a true Sophomore says something. Also from what I have read on here and on Rivals Gundy liked the kid. I don't know the whole story. But he has good size and has proven he can play D1 ball at least to his coaches at OK. St. plus UT and Coach O recruited the kid out of high school. So there is some history there. It is a need for us. Why not take him? He looks like a good player from reading everything I have read. Why take a chance on a High School Kid when you can have a kid who would be a RS Sophomore and has already proven he has what it takes to play.

Oh yeah, I definitely would like to see this kid a Vol. I trust the staff and think he deserves a chance. I'm just not sure he'll turn out to be anything special. I would love to see what he can do though. Another tight end is a welcome addition to this offense. Unless Delvin Jones backs out. Then I don't want this kid. Shouldn't affect Delvin Jones because he can play multiple positions and may be better anyways. Bring this kid on though. I am down.
