So I was watching the Kentucky vs Alabama game and for a team that is pretty bad this year I was impressed by what Kentucky did to them in the first quarter. Kentucky wasn't able to score themselves in the first quarter but they also kept Bama from scoring as well, to top it off Kentucky forced two Alabama turnovers deep in Kentucky's territory. While the final outcome of that game was ultimately 48-7 Alabama, that sure makes me wonder what the VOLs can do against Alabama. We've done an excellent job this year at forcing turnovers, we're hitting hard, and we've proven that we can go the full 60 minutes and not quit. I'm definitely not as skeptical of this match-up as I was earlier this year. Just offering a bit of my own perspective based on what I saw today.

Go Vols!

Alabama took it easy on Kentucky in the 2nd half and still had 668 yards in offense to Kentucky's 170. Yes it's Kentucky but I saw nothing that would make me think we have a snow balls chance in hell against them.

Ketucky had several injuries during the game that helped this out but regardless they can't hold out as long as our team can.

With Alabama ONLY scoring 48 points, I see them as vunerable this season. What a huge win this will be for us.

Hell, we might even be able to beat them with our 2nd string players......

All I know is that if we beat South Carolina and make a bowl game then the fan base is going to be excited and we will get a big push going forward.

If we beat South Carolina, Alabama and the rest of the teams on the schedule to make a bowl game, they might start building Butch Jones a statue to stand outside Neyland Stadium.

'Bama will be a huge favorite ... that doesn't mean the game won't be played.

Staying close for a quarter or even a half was a key component of a previous regime. I honestly believe that this coach and team are learning how to play for a full game. Will that translate to a win? Who knows but I will be watching! But, I won't be watching until it is time for that game. Right now, I'm planning to watch the chicken choking on Saturday.

I think perhaps my post is being misunderstood. I'm not saying that TN is a guaranteed win, that would be insane. What I'm saying is that the team that showed up during the Georgia game was legit. Brand new coach, practically brand new team, brand new plays, brand new players, brand new dynamic, brand new attitude and we almost beat a top 6 team.
Hell yes, if the kids on this team 117 want to win a game, I've seen the effort they put forth. If they show up with that much heart again we damn sure have a decent shot at a win against Bama!

Kentucky lost 48-7 but they shut out the tide for an entire first quarter and forced two turnovers that same quarter.... but that's Kentucky.
Put TN in their place and we have a larger record of forced turnovers, better O, and a better D than Kentucky, and we go the full 60 minutes.

You guys have REALLY got to temper your expectations for the rest of this year. The way I see it, we will be damn lucky to reach 6-6 and we'll probably wind up somewhere around 5-7

South Carolina: Loss
Alabama: Loss
Missouri: Toss up
Auburn: Loss
Vandy: Toss up
Kentucky: Win

Exactly.
Don't get me wrong, I was impressed with the way this team hung in there and fought last week. It gives me hope for the rest of the season, but it was really only one half of football. One great half does not necessarily mean that we are back. It's a start but it's best to take things one game at a time. New staff and a young team means there will be growing pains and set backs.
You have been warned VN.

You have to give Jones a little time.

If every Bama starter is out for the game, then we just might pull off a win. It'll still be hard since it's in Bama, but I'd like our odds against the second string better than the first string. Now, how do we get their starters to miss the game? I'm thinking family reunion. Bammers can't resist a good singles party.

Hey guys look at standings. We are set now to play two top teams in East Missouri and USC east. We also play 2 of top 3 teams in West Alabama and Auburn! So far we only played the middle section of SEC. Historically we think we have run the gauntlet with GA, FLA and throw in OR, but this year is just now hitting the hard 4 games! It will be tough to hit 6! And I am assuming a win over Candy and tucky! I just want to see the team continue to play hard and with passion and be smart and competitive - I think we can get 1 of the top 4, maybe 2 if we get some breaks. But realize the ones coming are better than the ones already played!
Go Vols! Keep the faith!

I was a lot more optimistic until I watched Missouri beat the heck out of UGA. We're going to have to beat at least one pretty good team to get to a bowl.
