TN vs Alabama, maybe not such an unrealistic a win

So I was watching the Kentucky vs Alabama game and for a team that is pretty bad this year I was impressed by what Kentucky did to them in the first quarter. Kentucky wasn't able to score themselves in the first quarter but they also kept Bama from scoring as well, to top it off Kentucky forced two Alabama turnovers deep in Kentucky's territory. While the final outcome of that game was ultimately 48-7 Alabama, that sure makes me wonder what the VOLs can do against Alabama. We've done an excellent job this year at forcing turnovers, we're hitting hard, and we've proven that we can go the full 60 minutes and not quit. I'm definitely not as skeptical of this match-up as I was earlier this year. Just offering a bit of my own perspective based on what I saw today.

Go Vols!

Keep Dreaming... This Is Just Wishful Thinking.

Wow, we get close to an overrated Ga. team and they come out of the woodwork. We lose to SC by 10 and Alabama by 24. Just bein' realistic!

We can beat USCe, Mizzou and AUB. With Franklin out Mizzou will be somewhat easier to tame but it is a road game. But it is after Mizzou gets humbled by FL, and USCe in thier horrible 3 game home stand.

AUB will be the toughest to beat but they have lost a WR for the season and QB (how long??).

I hope USCe is sluggish and over confident after that road trip to ARKY. I also hope ARKY is that bad more than USCe is that good.

The OP and some others in this thread are clearly smoking something illegal. I appreciate the fandom effort for our boys but lets be real. Yes, its a game and on any given Saturday (especially in the SEC where spoilers abound) we could pull off an upset.

Reality is, however, they are a far better team than we are and there is a very good reason they are rated #1. Bottom line, its a learning opportunity for the coaches and the kids and what I hope to see is the ability to adapt and the willingness to fight all the way to the end.

Otherwise, you should EXPECT that this will be a significant loss - but HOPE that it wont be.

Volnation has lost it's damn mind. Come back to planet Earth and put down the pipe. We almost beat a Georgia team that was beat down and now we are going to win out and beat Alabama. No we won't, I'm positive as it gets but they are a different animal and that we don't match up against in any way. Is their a chance? slight but yes because it's football., but other than that. No shot here move on

If we had a 20 game schedule, were 0-19, and the last game was against the Denver Broncos, someone here would make a thread about why we had a chance to win.

They won last year cause AJ had to pass all over us. I like our chances to keep it atleast close if AJ has to pass more than run plays.

They had over 200 yards rushing and over 300 passing against us last year. AJ didn't "have" to do anything. Alabama could do whatever they wanted against our defense last year run or pass. Our high powered offense managed only 11 first downs in the game and only 79 yards rushing. Don't kid yourself Alabama wins with defense first.

SC, Mizzou and Auburn are all potential w's and I think we win 1 or possibly 2 of those. Vandy and UK are virtual locks, they suck. Bama is a L barring an absolute miracle.

Wow. I'm worried of beating Auburn and Mizzu and we're talking Bama? This is getting out of hands guys. It was ONE half. Sure UT is due an upset but let's focus on beating one of them 2.

Of course I am also picking the Vols next week :D

You guys have REALLY got to temper your expectations for the rest of this year. The way I see it, we will be damn lucky to reach 6-6 and we'll probably wind up somewhere around 5-7

South Carolina: Loss
Alabama: Loss
Missouri: Toss up
Auburn: Loss
Vandy: Toss up
Kentucky: Win

Thanks for your and the rest of the negative opinions, I guess we should just forfeit the rest of the season

I learned a long time ago that anyone who talks about the first quarter as a moral victory has no clue about college football.

"While the final outcome of that game was ultimately 48-7 Alabama"

You just answered any question you will ever have on your topic.

I can't see it.. As much as a hate that bunch, they're still the best team until someone shows they're not. I don't think they're as good as the last two Bama teams, but they're still really good.

They have lost 3 NFL OL, including two top 10 picks, and have struggled running the ball early in the season. They have done well the last couple games running...against Georgia State and Kentucky.

As bad as we are, I think we are better than those two teams and can slow their ground game a bit. And if our DBs continue their trend of getting a pick...who knows.

Odds are against it, but ANYTHING is possible.

Nice to see such positive expectations. If only Cumberland College would have thought that in 1916 wonder what difference the score would have been?

Kind of like the guy who claimed we exposed Oregon.....

Maybe in Knoxville

Alabama is just going through the motions right now...I see a 14 point line.. maybe as much as 20,and Tennessee keeping it inside that 6 point spread with late scores

With Alabama ONLY scoring 48 points, I see them as vunerable this season. What a huge win this will be for us.

Hell, we might even be able to beat them with our 2nd string players......

I'm with ya bud....we got em right were we want em.

I don't understand all of the people that get bent out of shape over the ones who don't think the Vols beat bama. If you ask what I think then the answer is I don't see it happening. If you ask what I want then the answer is I hope they whip bama's azz. Because I don't think the good guys win doesn't make me cheer any less or lose hope. Also, like it or not, it doesn't make me any less of a fan.

Vandy is a win and how is Missouri a toss up but Auburn a loss (forgetting Franklin's injuury)?

Again, that was Kentucky playing NOT Team 117.
