TN vs OKC

I'm still doing it, sorry. UK and Bama (and barely Florida). Would really like to see UK make a good run. Spoke with several of their team in Oklahoma recently, good kids and their enjoying the ride. SEC:peace2:

This for any and every sport!

:yes::salute:

I think Bama will win it all. Oregon is the favorite but they will have to face the best pitcher in the country in their opener, Lacey Waldrop of FSU, who just won national POY.

UK beats ULL 4-1...Nunley one-hits the #6 team in the country.

Biggest recruiting mistake ever made by the Weeklys. Gabriel isn't in the same zip code as Nunley.

Apparently a lot of coaches made the same mistake, including Kentucky: Gabriel was their first pick at pitcher, not Nunley. Gabriel was much more sought after highly recruited than Nunley, who, IIRC, was somewhat of a late bloomer.

:) As grandma used to say, "it bees that way sometimes".

I won't say she didn't have a great night, but I would like to see what an aggressive team would have done to her tonight. ULL uncharacteristically just seemed to take a seat at the plate and not do anything. There were several pitches right down broadway and ULL just looked at them.

The Weeklys sound like a cartoon show - Make Karen the sole HC --- bye bye Ralph time for you to retire

:loco: It's contagious....lol. Funny that the Atlanta Braves does the same thing. They look at a strike right down peachtree as the saying goes.

The weeklys did recruit her!! They just didn't offer as much money as Kentucky did...softball like baseball you have to spread your scholarships out among your players

Bama beats OU 6-2...all 3 SEC teams in the field make the winner's bracket.

UF-Oregon and UK-Bama tonight. Winners are off until Sunday and would have to be beaten twice that day to miss the final series.

They stopped recruiting Nunley completely once Gabriel committed. I fully believe Nunley would've taken less money to go to UT if she had the chance.

ULL is a legitimate top 10 team and I believe they're in the top 3 nationally in HR hitting. In the regular season, they took 2/3 from Oklahoma and swept a doubleheader against Baylor in Waco.

That makes no sense...UT did offer less money than UK she HAD the chance to come to UT but chose to go to UK

UK threw in a car and an off campus condo --- $$$ that Calipari had leftover since the Harrison twins stayed in school

Was it ever released on how exactly Gabriel hurt the hip ?

Congrats to Lady Vols for having a fine season! I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a few of their games this year, and enjoyed their fine play. We'll certainly miss our seniors for sure. Shipman, Davin and Renfore were all outstanding for 4 years, and esp. Shipman's leadership qualities, will be dearly missed i reckon.

Overall, looking at everything that had transpired since last year's run to the NC series, i.e. having to replace 7 starters including 4-All Americans, etc., I think they finished at just about where they were supposed to finish, losing out in the super regionals, a top 16 finish in the country. That's not too bad. a 2nd place finish in SEC was an outstanding accomplishment seeing how dominant the 3 SEC teams have been in WCWS. KY girls just played out of their minds. Preseason #1 ranking was somewhat misleading as most of preseason rankings are. I can't believe how we could've been picked ahead of some of the other teams, e.g. OU sooner girls, etc.…

We just ran out of gas towards the end after long season, and learned a hard lesson; pitching-wise one's better have a whole staff to compete at the highest level than depending on one pitcher unless she's dominant in the class of Monica Abbot or thereabout (=human freak of nature). Ellen gave everything she got, but we badly needed a 2nd pitcher. It'll be interesting to see how our pitching situation works itself out in the offseason for next year. Something to keep an eye on for sure.

i know the team probably set a loftier goal than losing out in the super regional as it should've collectively, but WCWS would have been an overachievement this year. You can't make it to WCWS every single year..
Better luck next year, and can't wait for the season to start already. :) Our freshmen were great but sophomores weren't too shabby either, Overstreet, Tobler and Gaffin were really good…Just love that smooth left-handed swing of Overstreet's. Tobler IMHO is the most improved player on the team. Everyone will be more experienced, seasoned, and will have to mesh well with highly-touted incoming freshmen, but we'll have another exciting team next year! Go Vols! VFL.

Anybody know how committed the Weekly's are to Tennessee?

They seems to rely heavily upon California for recruits and the Stanford job just opened. Several potential targets for them in the SEC--Weekly's, Lawson, Walton at FL.

Offerings from a casual observer:

1. SEC is the place to be as far as softball is concerned as evidenced by recent trend (success) of SEC teams, and UT is right in the middle of it. And SEC is only getting stronger. Can't see Weeklys' leaving the happening place which is SEC for Pac 12 which is a bygone past left in dust..

2. Weeklys have built a legacy here, and it's getting only better; we are ready to build a statue in their honor after they won a couple NC's for us in next 10 years. :) Why leave it all behind and go some place else new where they have to start all over again from scratch? They're at the age where they like to settle, and i'm pretty sure Weeklys are very comfortable in their surroundings in the Big Orange Country by now.

3. Weekly's can recruit anywhere anytime against anybody. We get a ton of CA girls b/c CA is still the hotbed of girls softball, but if we have to recruit Martians or space aliens from Jupiter or Neptune, the Weeklys will go get 'em! If you are at TN, you can recruit anybody from anywhere to come here, and you don't necessarily have to be on the moon or someplace else.

4. I don't see Stanford program as one that's better than what we have right here in Knoxville. Overall, i believe that Lady Vol Softball program is one of the few elite programs in the country which is better than Stanford's, and can't fathom Weeklys bolting for what is an inferior program. We support them. The game is steadily growing, the fan base is growing every year; a plan for 2,000+ stadium expansion is in plan. We love and support Lady Vol soft ball here!

JUst my 2 cents...

Very similar to last year where Ellen starts off fast and then started faltering in the last third but had her big sis to pick her up and relieve a little of the load. Then she got her second wind in the tournament. Just didn't have anyone to pick her up this year. Plus, it is virtually impossible to beat Oklahoma at Oklahoma. I don't care who.

You have no clue who Stanford's targets are. Stop flapping your gums.
