'24 TN WR Amari Jefferson (Alabama commit)

View attachment 570295

This language about other written agreement seems like a loophole, doesn’t it? There has to be reason for these guys to want to go ahead and commit.
"Other written agreement" means grant in aid paperwork with said school, most likely. Which they can now sign as early as Sept 1 according to the new law.

Yep….. that’s why they are committing now….. seems short sighted but I don’t know exactly what they are getting offered either.

Probably a lot and get it now. Wonder what happens if they get injured during their senior year? How much are they guaranteed to get to keep? That would have to be taken into consideration if you were picking a school.

It would have to be a pretty rare injury for Missouri to not want them…. With medical improvements…. You can come back from almost any injury.

I'm sure that's it. Committing to the football factory that is Alabama is the move if you're afraid of competition.

Exactly! I hate Ala, but if people think they are just suddenly going to suck then they are stupid AF. I wish it worked that way, but unfortunately it doesn't. I'd sus

In a way, the fact that we recognized the talent in Squirrel but „GOAT“ Saban didn’t makes it even funnier 😂

Ala was only taking one Slot WR in that class and had one much higher ranked than Squirrel. It wasn't that Saban didn’t want or recognize talent, they didn't have the room nor need him. Auburn at the time he didn't see as a good fit.. Basically it was down to TN or Ga.

Marquarius White: Georgia is trying to lure a “Squirrel” away from Tennessee

It was more than likely that incident you talked about that sealed our fate.

And again I emphasize, this is not even close to being a big deal lol. Got idiots on here getting mad at Bama. Why lol? Now if they took Warren or Peyton Lewis from us, then yeah! That deserves some angst! But this?? People just want to cry.

Loosing Sammy Brown to Clemson, and Bates to LSU hurt.

Have people even asked "when would Jefferson even play if he came to Knoxville??"
While Bama needs him right now.
Just like we needed Arion Carter this season coming up for our LBs

I doubt Ala needed him, just like we didn't either. They have 6 WR's ranked higher than him in last year and this years class. The fact that we lost another high profile instate player to rivals or bordering schools is the issue. I didn't enjoy watching Tee Higgins or Amari Rogers playing for Clemson, especially with Boston being highly rated local kids, one of which was a legacy kid. Having him helps with recruiting other TN HS kids and ex teammates. We need the top instate players to have the pride of wanting to stay home and represent their state school. Has nothing to do with his ranking or anything else.

This goes against everything I’ve heard from large college football journalists. They will start earning nil once they are committed to play for the tigers.

That's not what that says. They have to sign with Mizzou before getting paid. Which they can't do till December.

I am disappointed when we lose targeted instate talent, BUT if they did not have a desire to be a VOL then I don’t miss them too long. Living inside state lines but not having hats, shirts, and ticket stubs and a history of prioritizing watching UT games is what it is in todays every game is on TV world.

I have to remind myself it is always possible he made a decision that is better for him, for us, or both. Fit is fit and you never really know. It is possible we add a more productive piece with that slot, from HS or portal. The portal has been very good to CJH at this position.

Wonder what Amari thinks of that Bama offense now.

I said this a while ago and it ruffled some feathers. I think his decision to go to bama wasn't about scheme or plan or baseball or xyz. Following his recruitment, it seemed like he just wanted to get out of the state. I could be wrong, and maybe he switches commitments, but I doubt this game changes anything for him

Additionally, the current iteration of our offense may be better than Bama, but isn't exactly enticing.

If anything talent at wr matters as we are witnessing rn. Heupal just can't plug a wr in his offense and it magically be Hyatt type production. We need to recruit well at wr and Jefferson would surely help.

Um we have a better WR than Amari committed
