The Jimmy's were highly thought of when we got them. Its easy to look back now and say those guys are garbage and these new receivers won't be busts. You can go back further than 2021/2020 and find plenty of highly ranked guys in our classes that didn't perform, at any position.Who from those previous larger WR classes were comparable to any of the guys we're taking about in this class? Secondly, those previous classes were brought in under Pruitt.

it happens every season. If you listen to the experts here on VN we are going to have 22 new starters every year, and that simply doesn't happen.
You typically take about 25 players, there are 22 starting positions. Seems like you need to take at least enough players to fill every start position, and then use the rest to fill any holes or grab the best available. Considering we still start a TE and an RB, 4 WRs is probably superfluous most years.
I never said any of those guys were garbage, but when you look at Wideman, Merrill, and the 2 Jimmy's.... were any of them as sought after as Matthews, Wingo, Staley, or Jefferson? Staley is higher rated than Jefferson, but probably the least sought after of the four and he's the top WR in SC. He's also a fringe top 100 player according to On3 and 24/7. It's funny that it's ok for other schools to take 4 highly rated WRs, but we have the top offense in the land and should recruit like we're scared to lose someone. At least, that's what it sounds like you're suggestingThe Jimmy's were highly thought of when we got them. If I remember correctly we really had to fight to keep Calloway as he was one of those who rocketed up recruiting rankings his senior year. He finished in the 100s on Rivals.I never said any of those guys were garbage, but when you look at Wideman, Merrill, and the 2 Jimmy's.... were any of them as sought after as Matthews, Wingo, Staley, or Jefferson? Tell me what other schools have taken 4 highly rated WRs in the same class equal to the 2 we have plus Wingo and Jefferson.I never said any of those guys were garbage, but when you look at Wideman, Merrill, and the 2 Jimmy's.... were any of them as sought after as Matthews, Wingo, Staley, or Jefferson? Ohio State last year took Brandon Inness (35th ranked on the composite), Noah Rodgers (53rd), Carnell Tate (59th), and Bryson Rodgers (357th, 4 star). The year before that they took 4 receivers all in the top 150 nationallyTell me what other schools have taken 4 highly rated WRs in the same class equal to the 2 we have plus Wingo and Jefferson.
We had to fight to keep him from Heupel and UCF oddly enough. As a player, he was ranked #146 and the 24th best receiver on the 24/7 composite. Rivals had him lower than the composite. #162 overall and #30 at his position. If I remember correctly we really had to fight to keep Calloway as he was one of those who rocketed up recruiting rankings his senior year. Ironically he would’ve probably feasted with his speed in Heupel’s offense at UCFWe had to fight to keep him from Heupel and UCF oddly enough. -VQAmari Jefferson will visit Tennessee and Alabama next Friday and Saturday before announcing his decision on August 5th at Baylor. We continue to feel like this is a total toss up. We can get behind Alabama holding the slightest of edges but we believe it’s really close, which is why he is taking visits to both again next week. He continues to shine on the baseball field, and while he will definitely be a draft pick, we aren’t sold on him, wanting to play professional baseball over college football.
AP said they want at least 4. As you can see our WR will be thin and could get thinner. You want at least 8 scholarship receivers on the rosteryou do realize it was bringing in larger WR classes that landed us in this current predicament right?
Taking three seems like a good compromise. It doesn't overload one class ensuring we have multiple transfers and have to scramble 3 years down the road when we repeat this mess.
I am saying we have bigger needs than a 4th WR, especially considering all 4 aren't going to stick. I would put at least 1 OT, and probably 2 DTs above WR #4.I never said any of those guys were garbage, but when you look at Wideman, Merrill, and the 2 Jimmy's.... were any of them as sought after as Matthews, Wingo, Staley, or Jefferson? we should be returning at least 5 WRs next year. That's even considering Thornton leaving, and Seldon not sliding into WR. 3 of the returners would be Jrs/R.S, so its not like their wouldn't be experience, not that another FR WR helps with that.AP said they want at least 4. If I was AP, I wouldn’t be so sure on the baseball part. I’d be willing to speculate that if he has a great senior season in baseball and gets drafted high enough, he might not play college footbal.
