I hope Nate excels……..mainly to shut people up that say he’s a wasted scholarship. That's harsh af to say about a kid who hasn't even gone through his first fall camp. I'm sure many felt the same about Tillman when he was signed.
Thanks to Bear Bryant putting football players on swimming scholarships.
That doesn't even mention marvin Harrison Jr and Xavier Johnson. That has to be the deepest position group in the country.Ohio State last year took Brandon Inness (35th ranked on the composite), Noah Rodgers (53rd), Carnell Tate (59th), and Bryson Rodgers (357th, 4 star). The year before that they took 4 receivers all in the top 150 nationally
The issue is nobody knows what he will or won't be. BOTH of the Spillman brothers are very athletic and have excellent work ethic. His official size right now is 6'2 195 lbs and the kid has speed. He was a summer enrollee and we haven't heard much about any of those guys. Not Spillman, Duncan, Weathersby, Bradley, or Keith. We can hope he becomes a special teams ace.
We have no idea which players will be meaningful contributors. Everyone thought jj Peterson was going to be great. Don't remember ever seeing him play. Harrison bailey was supposed to be great. That didn't pan out. But then you have players like byron young. He was a 3 star that turned out great. Squirrel white was a 3 star and we are looking for him to have a breakout season. Truth is we don't know who will be stars and who won't be.He's a nonfactor. Water is wet.
Very happy his brother committed with us tho
In support of your post, who thought Kalil McKenzie wasn’t going to be a game changer and likely all American? You just never know.We have no idea which players will be meaningful contributors. Tillman was coming back from an injured junior season. Unranked dude that was having big games at Bishop Gorman. That's harsh af to say about a kid who hasn't even gone through his first fall camp. I'm sure many felt the same about Tillman when he was signed.

Tillman wasn't the leading receiver for Bishop Gorman. Spillman didn't have an impressive senior year, but he was Lipscomb Academy's deep threat guy his junior year. My point is Spillman has tools and we don't know what that translates to in college. This staff has shown the ability to develop guys with tools if they are willing to put in the work. And....Why would anyone say that about Leacock or Webb? Leacock was a top 100 player, and Webb dominated Georgia high school football his senior year. That's not even the same comparison.Tillman was coming back from an injured junior season. Unranked dude that was having big games at Bishop Gorman.
Nate Spillman wasn't even the best WR on his team, and flat out dissapeared many games his senior year.
You don't hear me saying the same for Leacock or Webb.
I mean we're headed there. Still have one or two WR slots.Heupel and staff’s recruiting of skills positions on both sides of the ball has been damn near elite.
We need to make a couple of splashes with guys on the OL and DL to round out the class, but if we beat out Bama for Jefferson head to head, it’ll be very very hard to criticize the staff on the trail this cycle.
I’m never critical of the coaching staff but I do believe they have to start playing more guys at WR, which I do think we will some 4 wideout sets this season. Otherwise I do believe some guys will jump in the portal, and also i’m certain that recruiting the position will become more difficult as I believe other schools with use that to their advantage when trying to convince a kid that he may not get much playing time for the good guys.
They have said multiple times that they need more players capable of playing at a high enough level that they can play them. You don't just play more WR's just because. With the depth we will have the next come years, we will play more WR's. I don't think thru will sub them during possessions much. But will put subs in on new possessions more often.I’m never critical of the coaching staff but I do believe they have to start playing more guys at WR, which I do think we will some 4 wideout sets this season. Well of course, i’m not stating just play anyone for the sake of playing guys. They have said multiple times that they need more players capable of playing at a high enough level that they can play them. You play the guys who give you the best chance to win. The goal is to win football games, not keep everyone satisfied with their touches.
Playing depth players just to “keep them happy” is how you lose your job. That’s why you’re on volnation and you don’t get paid to make those decisions.
Yeah it’s really difficult to recruit WR’s in this offense, if this class is any indication… it’s not like we just landed the #1 athlete in the nation or anything…
You want touches? Earn them from the guys who get them. We have the #1 offense in the country and you wanna change it by giving out participation trophies to receivers. This stuff completely blows my mind.

Maybe the Bama baseball coach fired for gambling on Bama games (no investigation, of course) is giving tricked-up odds?Where you getting 60? Thought the talking heads have said Bama has slight edge
