'25 TN WR Cameron Sparks

Outside of Amari, who did tn want in state that they didn’t get? Everyone just acts like they’re evil bc every in-state kid doesn’t end up here when TN has other players they want more lol
Yep. As much as our fans like to complain about hit rate with instate kids, UT hits on a higher % of the instate kids it wants than most flagship schools. Look at how many blue chip Georgia kids don’t go to UGA. Look at how many blue chip Florida kids don’t go to UF.

The instate advantage is highly overrated. Not every kid wants to stay instate. We’ve made a living off of NC, GA, FL, etc. kids throughout our history. Saban’s dynasty relied very little on Alabama natives.

Tennessee is getting most of the Tennessee kids we want. Folks are just gonna complain regardless.

One of the recruiting services shows instate %. It’s interesting to look at for sure

@allvolrecruiting. Tennessee showing any interest in David Gabriel Georges? Multiple DI offers as a rising 10th grader including Ohio State. 2027 player to watch.
They just offered. Ohio State offered right after Vols and Ole Miss did. He's behind Shekai obviously this year but everyone from Baylor to Canada that has said anything about him keep hyping him up as big time even more

Alabama at 14% instate and Auburn at 48% is interesting.
Not being a LittleKnowitallvol. But, just indicative of who has better Southern recruiting ties. I would expect to see this trend continue, and Bama to struggle when it becomes apparent that they no longer hold a talent advantage over other teams in conference, like LSU, and, Allbarn.

Will take a couple years. Cause right now theyre crushing it.

Or another option would be that the gumps are a bigger national brand and recruit anywhere they want and auburn is just a better vandy.

This year it might just represent the relationships for a staff from out west playing out.
They had the #1 class less than 2 weeks ago. I hate bama so much and as much as I would to watch them struggle for the next 100 years, I don't see it happening. DeBoar is too good a coach.

Alabama has never really had a great instate talent recruiting advantage. They produce a little more talent than Tennessee, but not much. Then, when you factor in that Auburn is going to get their share, it’s probably a wash with Tennessee (Vanderbilt isn’t taking any blue chip kids from UT). But I’ve always maintained that “instate” is less important than proximate. And Alabama, like Tennessee, enjoys plenty of proximate talent.

In the ‘24 class the state of Alabama had four 5* and 21 4*. Tennessee produced zero 5* and 10 4*.

In ‘23 Alabama two 5* and 17 4*. Tennessee had zero 5* and nine 4*.

They’re producing a good bit more talent than Tennessee currently.

‘22 class was more even. Tennessee had two 5* and 10 4 *, Alabama had 15 4*.

Was going to say the same, and point out those numbers. Even more impressive when you compare relative state population (Tennessee 7 million, Alabama 5 million). Alabama is a pretty underrated state for talent.

Was only referencing the AU in state success THIS YEAR.

That 24 Alabama class is an anomaly. But yes, Alabama turns out more talent. Not denying that. They’re not like a Georgia, though. And when you factor in that Auburn will take a bunch of them, while Tennessee is the only real recruiting power in its state (like LSU), there really isn’t a huge difference in what’s left available instate for the respective flagship schools.

Both are fortunate enough to be situated in proximity to a lot of talent, though. Tennessee can go into Georgia, the Carolinas, Virginia/Maryland, even southern Ohio. Alabama can go into Georgia, Louisiana, and Florida.

Alabama’s success hasn’t been built on instate talent.

In state talent has improved a good bit here lately. Unfortunately a lot of people are transplants and have no real vested interest in the Vols. We’ve been a dumpster fire program most of these kids lives as well.

The "transplant" dynamic is the case in just about every area with high football talent production. Atlanta, Charlotte, the Florida cities...they're all full of transplants. That's part of being a major city, which Nashville has become. We can't complain about not having the same amount of instate talent as those cities, then, when we improve that talent (largely due to the growth of Nashville), complain that many of them are transplants...as is the exactly the same case in those cities.

It's really not about "growing up a fan" that gives a school an advantage in recruiting proximate talent. Trevor Lawrence and Josh Petty grew up Vol fans. Joakim Dotson grew up a Gator fan (he was named after Joakim Noah). The advantage of recruiting proximate talent lies in the family's ability to come see their son play. That exists whether the family transplanted to Tennessee or not.

This is Baylor's schedule, they're first game will be on ESPN. That should give Sparks a chance to ball out and get a committable offer to somewhere.

Having to go out of state to fill all their non conference games. There are some pains to taking all these boarder student athletes.
