'19 TN WR Kendrell Scurry

Amazing how hyped the in state class was this time last year. Now look at it.
We didn't even know the names of the guys that Pruitt ended up wanting the most. Unfortunately we didn't land them either. But its crazy the way this class was talked about. Now, 2020 seems to be a legit loaded in state class.

Serious question: how can anyone be sure that the 2020 class is legit? At this time last year, we thought the 2019 in-state class was loaded. What's different? Are we assuming that the 2020 class is legit because of the staff's interest?

Yes, staff's interest. We already know that there are many more names that they are prioritizing for this class.

I'm not sure it's been stated but the number of quality lineman in the 2020 class. I'm not sure I've seen it this deep before.

If anyone else can recall a deep pool of linemen like this in one class please refresh my memory.

This observation alone makes this a good year to offer a lot of guys.

In 2002 there was some pretty high level guys in-state.
But 2020 is on another level. 6 out of the top 250 of players in the entire nation are lineman from TN. Then there are the out of state guys like Rutledge in GA and Morris in NC..

Last year at this time our staff was not high at all on the in-state '19 class like they are with the '20 class. Also, IMO a lot of the mid-state kids tend to be overhyped early on in their careers and fade out and that is where all the supposed "top prospects" were in the '19 class. In '20 it isn't that way. Nashville has some nice prospects again but Memphis and Knoxville are both loaded in '20.

To be fair, Baron has played in Nashville until this upcoming season.

State seems pretty balanced across the 3 regions this year, which is a good thing IMO.

Im not sure it was so much Pruitt and staff being high or low on in-state '19 class, tbh. I think, because they had been elsewhere and not recruited this state, they wanted to see a bunch of the '19 in-state class at camp, and a bunch of them (Woody, Wilhoit, Logue, etc) had a problem with that, so Pruitt said, see ya; or, in the case of Logue, he offered, but wasn't about to grovel.

I think it was an issue where they sort of question the overall competition a lot of them faced. They didn't have a ton of instate connections and their staffs had not recruited these kids(another red flag) so they hadn't seen them in person. They also want to create a standard of come to camp, compete and earn it. They commented several times at NSD celebration about how important it was for the kids that came to camp.

Several showed this staff they are afraid to compete so they said ok we won't be recruiting you moving forward. Knox came and earned offer but he was more a casualty of current need in WR room and numbers.

They definitely set the standard this year. You come to camp and show out= an offer. You dont come, we dont know enough about your abilities or willingness to compete. Period.
