To Hell With Boise State.

Let's suppose, Ohio State goes undefeated, and the SEC champion loses one game.
That means Ohio State plays Boise State for the NC, does anyone honestly think either team could beat the SEC champion?

I'd say the SEC champion makes it in.

Heck, even Ohio State with one loss depending on who its to and how bad it is, the Big Ten looks like it's going to be the best it has been in a long while this year. Possibly on equal footing with the SEC, even.

I agree. Top to bottom the Big Ten looks stronger than it's been in years.

Not sure on exact amounts. It was made public that the television revenue was enough to be a sticking point for Nebraska when deciding to leave the Big 12 due to Texas being guaranteed more television time.

As for Tennessee-Oregon and Penn St-Alabama, both of those matchups are home and home. Boise merely asks for the same. Arkansas and La-Monroe have played many times over the last 10 years. To date all of those games have been in Little Rock as a neutral field agreement. Not sure about this years matchup but I would think La-Monroe is getting a decent share.

Why would any marquee team play a home and home series with Boise? Every time you agree to a home-and-home with somebody, you're giving up a $4 million home game against North Loser State. So if you're giving that up to play at Boise, you're getting back......what? Valuable exposure in the recruiting hotbed of Idaho? A chance to lose on the blue turf and have ESPN talk about it nonstop for three days? With the system as it is, there's absolutely nothing to be gained for any major program by taking a trip to Boise.

Why would they? The system gives them absolutely no benefit for it. Texas can make more money by scheduling an endless series of home games against the Amarillo Institute of Calculator Repair than they could by playing Boise. Texas doesn't need the exposure; Boise needs the exposure. Why should Texas give up money and risk a loss to help Boise?

Well put.

Depends on which team it is and which conference. There is a reason Oregon is playing Tennessee. Likewise with Penn St stepping out and playing Alabama. They understand that all other teams are competing for 1 open spot in the NC game vs the SEC champ (barring a fluke year in which everyone loses 2 games). If you are a contender in one of the other conferences you are running a risk by dodging Boise and TCU and trying to get the bid in the press.

All these home-and-homes between equals are about increasing your recruiting exposure and building your national brand. You can argue whether the benefits of aggressively scheduling other BCS teams outweigh the risks of losing, but at least everyone knows what the goals are. There are no benefits to scheduling a home and home with Boise. It's a useless trip from a recruiting standpoint. If you win, then everybody just says, Well, they're the powerhouse, they're supposed to win. If you lose, they talk about it on ESPN for three days. There's just no good reason to do it under the current system.

Well being that Texas is ranked BEHIND Boise ST. they have a lot to win.

If Texas finishes undefeated they won't be behind BSU. If they have one loss then they won't be behind them in the computer rankings.

"IF" and "if" they lose 2 games?
and that's a pretty big word in college football.
and what "if" Boise St. used their 4 OOC games to play Vandy, Duke, Colorado and Louisville and won...right their is 4 wins over BCS schools even if they are 4 schools on the bottom of the BCS. would that make you people happy?

its not us that needs to be happy about it. It needs to be the coaches, the sports writers, and the former players.

I don't see any coaches, former players or sports writers posting in this thread, just a bunch of Vol fans that are jealous because a "nobody" team could wipe the field with half the SEC teams....and i am a Vol fan..I also like Boise ST.

That's not the point, Grim. The point is that we - use casual posters - have no say so in the matter. The people that can actually make a difference are those three as they are the one's the vote in the polls. The complaint is always that coaches dont watch the games. Fine, but that's what sports writers are paid to do and they didnt give BSU any love last year. Same with those former players that vote in the Harris poll. They have the power to change anything they want. Heck, they can even make Vandy #1 by giving them first place votes whether they deserve it or not.

My pole is the only one I care about right now.

You're so smooth....

Stop all the madness!!! We wouldn't have such great discussions and controversy if we did have a playoff. Then their wouldn't be anything to talk about :(

Whoever said Boise is not moving to the MWC is misinformed. I can provide multiple links and replay of their press conference joining the MWC. The WAC is decimated since fresno and nevada defected. It was Nevada and Fresno who tipped off the MWC commish about the possible BYU independent move and putting the rest of their sports in the WAC. To make that not an option and to try and keep BYU, the MWC commish played his hand.

So BYU had to scramble to find another conference to put their sports in and reluctantly joined the WCC. Even dropping such sports as Softball, Swimming, Golf to achieve their goal of Independence.

All of this can be blamed on one source: Texas. With the potential of the Big 12 breaking up the MWC was poised to take KU, K state, and Iowa st. Had the PAC16 formed, they wouldn't have needed Utah. The MWC would have been a very strong conference at that point.

Now let me speak as a Wyoming fan for a second. We are lucky to even be in the MWC, not because we can't compete, but that we don't have the Media Market a conference wants. We are the lowest populated state but yet we can compete on any given Saturday. We have a small fan base, but lots of booster money. Our facilities rival anyone elses in the conference. It's amazing what Oil and Coal money can buy you :) Recruiting here is not an easy task. But training at the highest altitude college in D1 will make the you most in shape athlete in the country.

What does all this mean? I'm not sure but I could see scenario where Wyoming cannot find a conference and is either put in a non regional bottom conference, or has to drop down to 1AA.

It's sad that money has destroyed the sport I love. It's doesn't matter if the little guys beat the big guys, because at the end of the day, it was all about the money anyway and not what happened on the field.
