Tobias Harris staying in NBA Draft

Hat, just curious. Tobias has been described as workman like with a business approach to the game. In an alternate universe where UT makes a deep NCAA run with Tobias as a key contributor, does that sway his decision? Essentially, would collegiate glory have swayed him from his goal of going to the NBA? Or was this bound to happen regardless of UT's season, coach, etc?

It's not hard to support a guy who was up at 6 AM every day busting his butt for your program. Best of luck to Tobias!

Do you read romance novels? Even though Harris seems to have a good family situation, I can't see too many players passing up NBA $ just to be Rudy or the BMOC for 1 or 2 more years.

I don't see anything that would have swayed his decision. As you said, he approaches the game as business. It's a sound business decision to go now. I hate to keep harping on the same point, but this draft is terrible. By the time draft day rolls around, Harris may well be a top 15 pick. He'd have a much tougher time going that high next year.

I wish Tobias all the luck in the world, however, he is going to struggle for a few years. He lacks the outside perimeter game needed by a small forward and definitely will get overpowered by power forwards in the NBA. He could have used another year of seasoning.

How many rookies come in and make a big impact? He'll be a solid player in the long run.

Get while the getting's good. Can't fault any person for that. Thanks for sounding off.

This sucks, but it's not surprising. Just have to focus on building for the future this season.

Best of luck to Tobias.

That approach is fine, as long as you are consistent with and understand the consequences. If you want to do business that way, you can't complain when you look up one day and realize your program has topped out as a southern version of Wisconsin.

I am consistent with that. Of course, it'd be tough to turn down a year with Wright or Wall, but the trend would stale fast. I'm glad Tobias came and he deserves his shot. Don't ever want it a yearly deal though. You can win league championships and make NCAA runs with good coaches and good systems and there are plenty of good ball players around to make it happen.

I agree, but that doesn't mean there aren't a bunch of fans who pay lip service to wanting four years guys and then ***** when those seniors get clocked by the Carmelo Anthonys and Derrick Roses of the world. Can't have it both ways.

Tobias was a top-5 high school player nationally. He started overlooking the college game LONG ago. The greatest service he provides the program is being a first round pick.

How can you blame a 19 year old kid for leaving a mediocre college basketball program that just went through some pretty adverse stuff and expect him to stay when someone is waving a fat check in his face

i don't blame the kid, I do blame coaches who recruit players like that, unless your winning titles one and dones leave you high and dry in one year with no shot at replacing their talent...instead you could have brought a top 100 player in who would have still gotten us an 8/9 seed and been around 3 years...one and dones are basically useless

You sound like a mediocre fan at best.

I won't forget Tobias. I will forget about you and your opinion though.

shows you don't know much...i don't grow attachments to players who are here one year and barely get us in the NCAA tourny...JOKE, much like yourself

You don't want us recruiting elite high school talent but you're calling TOP a joke?
Play on, playa.

yeah...I do not want any top one and done players...so basically I would take any player not rated as a top 10 player coming out of high school...I think players rated 10-100 can get it done...want to ask butler how highly recruited their players are...to win titles you need players that stick around, BOTTOM LINE...no wonder we suck historically at basketball, our fans just don't quite get it
