Tobias Harris staying in NBA Draft

yeah...I do not want any top one and done players...so basically I would take any player not rated as a top 10 player coming out of high school...I think players rated 10-100 can get it done...want to ask butler how highly recruited their players are...to win titles you need players that stick around, BOTTOM LINE...no wonder we suck historically at basketball, our fans just don't quite get it
How long did Gordon Hayward stay at Butler?

Butler doesn't turn-down top tier talent. Up until recently, top recruits wiped their a$$es with Butler stationery.

I have a feeling you and I both will be longing for the days when we were in the mix for between 25 and 35 percent of the top 50 high school players.

Congrats to him and best of luck. I hope he makes the most of it ... and that he enjoys those checks.

If Harris is not drafted until 20 or so, he is making a stupid decision. He's not really ready for the NBA, and would probably be a top 5 pick next year. These kids and their families and agent just can't wait to get their hands on cash--that's the thing.

There are at least six guys on the '11-'12 North Carolina and Kentucky rosters alone who would be drafted ahead of him next year.

I am not sure we can't contend for those players in the near future, we have the facilities and the resources...the next few years are going to be terrible, partly due to the fact of Harris leaving a void.
As for Heyward, 2 years, and Mack was a Junior this past season...no one and dones. All I am saying is the UNC's, Duke's etc may take a one and done here and there but they win titles because players stay and lead them to titles as juniors/seniors...take UK and all they do is target one and dones and they will continue to not win titles. Then you get a program like UT who is not on the level of any of those schools and one and done players kill you because it is impossible to replace that talent year in and year out. Focus on the top 100, not the top 10, that is how youw ill stay good for long periods and contend for titles.

Good point. If Barnes (UNC) , Sulinger (osu) and the KY players had stayed in the draft, Harris probably would have come back another year. With all of those guys staying out, it raised Harris' stock. IMO, this is a very weak NBA draft.

Being a top-ten player doesn't automatically make them a one-n-done, just as being an 11-100 player doesn't lock them in for 4 years.

I am not talking 4 year players...2 or 3 years is fine, that gives you extra recruiting cycles to replace their departures...they should let them leave after high school and then it should be like football, if you set foot on campus you have to be three years removed from high school to go pro. We all know who the one and done players are, and Harris was eyeing the NBA all the way from New York. Knoxville was never more than a resting spot for him. Just remember Lofton and Jujuan Smith were not highly recruited at all and Chism was a lower end top 100 player and they are the guys who took us to heights we may never see again. Those are the players who make great programs, hopefully we can find them in the future. I do not want any one and done's...Harris is exactly why...he didn't make us a great team and now he makes us even worse because we can't recruit anyone as good as him.

I can't understand why Tobias has jaded you this much. Basketball is more cyclical than any other sport.

Have not heard anything on Hopson.
What is he doing?

If he goes to the NBA he will go 2nd round, no guaranteed money and may waste away overseas for a few season until (if) his team wants to bring him back.

He may "waste away" overseas, but he will be paid handsomely to do so. What thrills await him here if he takes your advice and comes back to Knoxville?

If it was so obvious that Harris "was eyeing the NBA", why wouldn't UT simply recruit as if he were only going to be here one season? Seems an easy problem to solve.

We knew Harris was a two year max guy. There is no excuse for Pearl not signing post players.

can not recruit when your coach is in turmoil and you lose him, Pearl still was not going to get anyone as highly rated as Harris...therefore it was a waste to bring him in...and that is about all last season was

Good luck to him. It was probably an easy decision to make considering all the higher ranked forwards that stayed in school. Plus the potential one and done's in coming in he would be a late 1st or early 2nd next year. Even if it doesn't work out its the best move to make right now

drafted next year. IMO he would go much higher next year than he will this yea. He'll be a lot better in a year than he is now...This is just a quick-money grab by Harris and his family, which of course is what all these guys are about--getting the money as quickly as they can. About 80 percent of the guys who come out after a year or two are not nearly ready for the nba.

No. If Tobias is going for the highest pick, this yea will be much more favorable than next yea. I know someone has explained it to you, so I won't waste the energy.

There are at least 7 PF's and probably as many SF's that would go higher than Harris next year if they all came out. That's not even including guards and centers or any international players. He would have to improve exponentially over the next year to be a lottery pick in the 2012 draft. It just makes sense to come out now because i think next year's draft will be loaded with good players.

He knows. He still thinks Harris will be in the lottery despite that.

Harris isn't from a poverty stricken family. He doesn't need to go now, its the smart decision. He is a top 20 pick if not higher this season and he could very easily fall out of the first round next year unless he would've had an absolutely monstrous season.

he really wasn't ever falling out of the first round.

This years recruiting class is much deeper and more talented than last years. There could potentially be a double digit # of one and done's in this class depending on how the dominos fall. That, mixed with several players that could've gone this year but stayed due to the probable lock-out makes it more likely TH could've fallen out of the first round rather than moved up higher IMO.
