A poster in the recruiting forum said that Smith may have been released/excused from the team after "one strike"? Has anybody else heard this? Didn't see it discussed so SIAP

He was quiet this year. A few good snaps against Oregons back-ups. I hope he is not in trouble.

This isn't going to go over well for some, but CBJ needs to get rid of guys and make space for others if he isn't going to play them. The way this staff recruits it won't surprise me to see this staff ask a handful of players to leave by years end.

This is what I was thinking. It wouldn't surprise me to hear a few more names pop up before spring practice

smith was never going to get quality time at UT. He made a mistake and allowed the staff to get rid of him if true. I wish the best for Smith but the program must do what's best for UT

I think there will be a few players on the current roster that are going to realize that they're not in the immediate rebuilding plan. It may sound harsh to some...but just because you're on scholarship doesn't necessarily mean that you're SEC caliber. There's a lot of truth to that...so at the end of the day it wouldn't surprise me at all if a few were shown the door or simply find it themselves.

I wouldn't doubt that there are a few more players that are asked to consider their future..

You guys are vultures, why don't we wait to hear something concrete before celebrating his rumored departure. What's funny is how hyped up he was by some on this forum as a good power, north/souh back; and now this crap.

Even if it's true, bash on Bama's players or something, not those in Orange. Not over this. It's a free country (for now) but just my two cents....carry on.

I agree. Just posting a rumor that I got from the recruiting forum not sure whether there's any truth to it at all. I figured we'd have heard something by now if he was dismissed

Nothing wrong with your post. I'm hoping for some clarification on this as well. IMO he is a solid backup and that shouldn't be downplayed,

Rumor on Smith or not...I'm still saying "some" players on this roster are not SEC players. It's that simple. Just because I'm making this point doesn't mean I'm "bashing" any of them. I mean kudus to them for making it this far. How many kids can say they earned a D1 scholarship...so there is a silver lining to some degree. But once you're on stage with the big boys things seem to sort themselves out pretty quick. You can either play or you can't. If you can't then......?

I believe your statement was fair and properly worded if such is the case. Some of the other posts on the other hand...

I always liked the way I saw Tom Smith running. I hope he is still with us, continuing to work hard, and will get his chance to bust loose and show out.

He's gone. I heard it from someone in the program. Happened right before thanksgiving. It was disciplinary.

Vol fans need to decide if you want to win or stay irrelevant. I am not advocating either decision that may or may not have been made regarding Tom Smith. What I will say is in today's CFB atmosphere, it's start winning within 3 years or look for another job.

In any rebuilding scenario, in sports or business there will always be some tough choices to make regarding roster and staff. I do think however, CBJ will be upfront and honest with each individual that may not be a good fit and make sure he doesn't "throw" them to the curb without helping them find a positive situation for their future in regards to a student athlete.

Maybe CBJ reads the game threads in the FF each week and is taking consultation from our fans about his and his staffs ability to coach. (Being sarcastic in last paragraph)

never impressed by smith, but am surprised alden hill didn't get any carries this year after Oregon. had a great spring game and think he had the frame unlike smith.

Let the pruning begin. Hate it but it is business. I think we will see a lot of mutual "best interest" transfers and "one strike" dismissals for the lower tier depth chart players.
