Tom Smith?

Vol fans need to decide if you want to win or stay irrelevant. I am not advocating either decision that may or may not have been made regarding Tom Smith. What I will say is in today's CFB atmosphere, it's start winning within 3 years or look for another job.

In any rebuilding scenario, in sports or business there will always be some tough choices to make regarding roster and staff. I do think however, CBJ will be upfront and honest with each individual that may not be a good fit and make sure he doesn't "throw" them to the curb without helping them find a positive situation for their future in regards to a student athlete.

Maybe CBJ reads the game threads in the FF each week and is taking consultation from our fans about his and his staffs ability to coach. (Being sarcastic in last paragraph)

We are in good hands with CBJ. Any players that will be asked to leave will get full help by our staff when it comes to finding them a new home. So many people whine about losing, then whine when our staff replaces guys who can't make it here. Neal and Lane were both beat up this year, and our staff still didn't give Hill or Smith many carries. What's that say about those guys in terms of how our staff views them? RB is a position in which you either contribute within 2-3 years or you find yourself recruited over. If we land another RB to go along with Hurd and Paulk it's going to be hard for Smith or Hill to get touches.

This isn't going to go over well for some, but CBJ needs to get rid of guys and make space for others if he isn't going to play them. The way this staff recruits it won't surprise me to see this staff ask a handful of players to leave by years end.

This will help that whole "zero depth" problem we have. Good idea.

What do we really know about this? Let's hear something official first before we become lemmings.:eek:k:

We sit here and gripe and moan when we get destroyed by the Bamas, Aubies, Ducks, etc. but they vet these players in the exact same fashion. This is big boy ball and scout team players won't get you any crystal. Really hope the kid can shake it off and flourish somewhere else.

That's actually a really dumb statement because CBJ has proven to everyone here that he's not going to just play guys to play them. These players like Smith have been here for three years now. Do you really think this guy is going to play over Hurd and Lane? At the start of the season Hill and Smith were surpassed by a walkon from Maryland. So many people on here get butt hurt when other people talk facts and reality about current players here, but facts are Smith and Hill won't be able to hold the jock strap of a guy like Hurd. If you want to continue to see the BS product we have seen the last three seasons here then you and everyone else start a petition and send it to Knoxville and tell them it's ok if we continue to have 5-7 seasons, but please don't replace the players who have been here that can't get playing time over walkons. UT is a business and sometimes it's an ugly one. We are about winning, and these guys who can't see the field are being replaced as we speak by CBJ's recruits. If you guys don't like these facts, then I suggest you stop watching college football because every team with a new coach who has a brain does some cleaning house when he gets there.

Average or below average depth = zero depth

Rumor on Smith or not...I'm still saying "some" players on this roster are not SEC players. It's that simple. Just because I'm making this point doesn't mean I'm "bashing" any of them. I mean kudus to them for making it this far. How many kids can say they earned a D1 scholarship...so there is a silver lining to some degree. But once you're on stage with the big boys things seem to sort themselves out pretty quick. You can either play or you can't. If you can't then......?

If you can't then you get a medical scholarship ala Saban.

Scholarships are only year to year guarantee.

If players are buried on the debt chart, they need to either step up and become a player or step out and give up the scholarship and transfer to Tenn tech or uT-chatt.

Plan and simple
Step up or step out.

Debt Chart? Isn't that what took down Mo Couch?

Our problem isn't depth, it's quality depth. Keeping a body who will not ever get signifcant playing time won't help with depth. The fact is that CBJ will have to prune at least 6 more to make room for everybody in this recruiting class. Wish nothing but the best for Smith. I hope he lands somewhere where he can play.
