Tom Smith?

This isn't going to go over well for some, but CBJ needs to get rid of guys and make space for others if he isn't going to play them. The way this staff recruits it won't surprise me to see this staff ask a handful of players to leave by years end.

Truth. This roster has to turn over as quickly as possible. I don't believe Butch will just tap kids on the shoulder and tell em they're gone, but if a kid isn't doing what he needs to do, isn't helping move the program forward or isn't acting right, then they will be told to move on. Every player on this team is on notice......

You guys are vultures, why don't we wait to hear something concrete before celebrating his rumored departure. What's funny is how hyped up he was by some on this forum as a good power, north/souh back; and now this crap.

Even if it's true, bash on Bama's players or something, not those in Orange. Not over this. It's a free country (for now) but just my two cents....carry on.

I'm a little confused. Nobody is bashing TS or anyone else, but sometimes the truth hurts. Maybe they are not an SEC caliber players.

This is a huge thread for comments on speculation. Anybody got something more concrete? If Tom Smith does stay, he should be a fullback. He runs N-S and doesn't mind hitting people.

I know for a fact that he is no longer with the team. I would like to thank him for coming to UT and wish him success in his future endeavors.

He hasn't played enough to even tell if he's good enough to play in the sec

If he couldn't even earn any snaps during the weeks when Lane was out, what makes you think he was anyway?

If he was an SEC caliber back, then you can bet your ass he'd have given Neal a few breaks during those weeks.

The fact that the coaches only gave him sans during garbage time tells you what was for our program: baggage.

Butch needs to get rid of the ones who are looking for a free ride and will not give the effort needed to play in the SEC.

Scholarships are only year to year guarantee.

If players are buried on the debt chart, they need to either step up and become a player or step out and give up the scholarship and transfer to Tenn tech or uT-chatt.

Plan and simple
Step up or step out.

this is true, but i hate to see players leave after giving there all for UT

Our problem isn't depth, it's quality depth. Keeping a body who will not ever get signifcant playing time won't help with depth. The fact is that CBJ will have to prune at least 6 more to make room for everybody in this recruiting class. Wish nothing but the best for Smith. I hope he lands somewhere where he can play.

true frosh doesnt help depth much though.

There's not a lot of sympathy in the SEC. It's big time football on a big time stage with big time stakes! They can still give their all for UT...but it'll probably on the scout team. (Which still helps make the team better)

This thread sucks he is not off the team. If he is then him, young and howard are time travelers because they are making videos on Instagram as we speak and being kids. Seems if he was kicked off team he would be moping around and not making silly videos with his buddies for YouTube and Instagram.

Every scholly on crutches not due to actually playing in a game needs to be booted. We have at least 10 that I have seen. Next up are perfectly healthy players that have not produced. Thanks, Good Luck, See ya.

He was excused after failing a drug test.. MISERABLY. Lets just say like 14x worse than what the NCAA would call a violation. I think he can still be a part of the team though. He hangs with RFerg a lot so hopefully it doesnt rub off. RF is starting to remind me of how Ainge was before Cutcliffe broke it off in him.

What, he smoked one morning of the test kinda thing? Stupid but definitely not 14x worse worthy.

I don't think you understand what I was trying to say. I know exactly what's going on here, I hung out with him a little last week. Kid has some issues and I hate it for him. I'm not sure what's causing his decline but whatever he was doing (smoking) was done way more than one morning. To pop what he did on his test it's more like an everyday thing, multiple times. I'm not going to put all of his business out there, but that's why he isn't in good standing with the team. I think he's a talented kid and we could use him next year, but he has a lot of work to do to see that field again.

So at first you said he was excused and now you say he has a lot of work to do to see the field again.

I'm confused, is he no longer on the team or is he suspended with a chance to get back?

I'll believe this crap when I see something official.

I believe privacy laws will prevent anything coming from anyone affiliated with UT regarding this issue. If this were your son, how would you guys feel about internet rumors like this?
