Tomorrow will tell a lot

Nope, settling for who we settled for was the problem. Dooley, Jones and Pruitt were settle hires and proved to be worthy of that title. All as result of the leadership failure at the top.
What are the requirements of being a coach we "settled" for? Was Heupel White's 1st choice? 2nd?

Indiana is a great story, but c'mon, they've played nobody. The Big 10 is maybe three good teams and then everybody else, and IU's only real game this year will be OSU. Their only other road game left is Mich. St., so unless they implode they are likely to be 10-2 at worst.

Same can be said for Miami. With Florida and Fla. St. down, their toughest game is at Louisville this week. If either of these teams was in the SEC, they'd be 8-4 teams at best.
We shall see. I think the results this year are more about parity than anything else. It's been consistent through all conferences. There is a middle class. In the past it was the haves and the have nots. The gap between the top teams and everyone else was insurmountable. The portal and NIL changes that.

No argument at all. But you look at the SEC, and there are few road games that can be considered anything close to a gimme. The Big 10 has two really good teams (OSU and Oregon), one good team (PSU), a few 'middle class' teams, and a lot of mediocrity.

But it's definitely all leading to the same kind of dreary parity as we see in the NFL today, and I'm not sure that's such a great thing.

Our fans talk like the program was in solid shape when JH walked in. It was at its lowest point in over 60 yrs. Diluted talent & roster numbers, NCAA major violations & the key opponents at their all time high. We’re damn fortunate the program is where it is today.

This can all be true and Heupel still needs to take the next step. He rebuilt it, now it's time to become contenders. Arkansas slip up is what it is. There's your mulligan.

That's exactly my point. Those top teams are a bit weaker than in past years but there is a definite middle class now. Teams that on any given Saturday can have a legit chance at knocking off the big boys. Heck USCe gave Bama a scar today and that is not all that great for us next week. They will be wide awake. USC is currently giving Penn State a scare, Iowa spanked Washington and Oregon OSU is gonna shake things up. In the Big 12 so far only upset has been AZ State over Utah but its been a weekly thing at least 1 team in each P4 getting upset.. I have a feeling the undefeated club drops a lot this weekend.

Like I keep saying multiple 3 loss teams will make playoffs and a 2 win team will likely make the conf championships for a couple of big conferences. I don't think parity is bad because it won't be static. Things will settle into a groove and a pecking order will be established. It will just be different. Teams in bigger markets are going to have a much better time of things because of NIL. One big reason the Mountain West is so invested in UNLV.

With the exception of Texas every team in SEC is having their moments. It’s going to be a dog fight every week. Tennessee should win but it ain’t going to be easy. Parity in college football is finally here and you know how you can tell? Everyone is bitching about their team!

Getting from the outhouse to competitive is hard. Getting from competitive to top 25 level is very hard. But getting from this point to being elite is not something that just happens because you took the last step.

Your guys forget so easily that we were in the CFB wilderness for almost two decades (except when you want to wallow after a loss), are only four years removed from the dumpster fire, are just beginning to see the fruits of our recruiting, and are still not at elite level with regard to quality depth. It's not an automatic "step", and it might not happen this year or even next. It's a process, and looking at any one game as 'make or break' is nothing short of absurd.

If they weren't wide awake today after losing at Vandy, they've got far bigger problems than what we're seeing.

That's a lot of words to my short statement. Be better. Better yet don't be losing to Florida half time.

I haven’t commented or posted all week ( I don’t think) because I just didn’t really have anything worth saying after the ridiculous pathetic loss last week. This is year 4….year 4 for Huepel.

If Tennessee loses a HOME game to this pathetic Florida team, we know that Huepel probably will never lead us to being a front runner of the SEC. You can make all of the excuses you want but this is…and I’ll say it again….year 4. No excuses. Year 4 that offensive line should be ferocious. Nico doesn’t have time to get but one look back there. Can’t win like that. Running game against decent teams is not consistent to win.

Tennessee blows out Florida tomorrow…ok, progress…fixing issues. Tennessee loses? Our program is again garbage and don’t try denying it or you’re just a blind homer.
Hey, turns out that you still don’t have anything to say.

All of my proof would be anecdotal, look back at the leadership and why they considered the choices they made. Hamilton obviously didn't look at Dooley's career at La Tech so it must have been his father's name that closed that deal. Jones' success was due to the coattails that he followed so the decision was made based on false information. Pruitt was chosen because of the coaching tree he fell under but with little proof that he had the skill set for the next level. Not sure if Heupel was White's first choice but at least he had a history with and personal knowledge of his character and skill set. Much better due diligence with White IMO.
