If we were playing Michigan State this weekend what would your level of confidence be going into that game?

I would honestly feel like we would have a very good chance to win that game.

I believe the 4 best teams are in the top 4 BUT if Clemson were 8-0 and had the exact same schedule as WF they’d be in the top 4. If ND had Cincy’s schedule and they’re best win was on the road at say Michigan, they’d be in the Top 4. This is about ratings and money and always will be, that’s why a 4 team playoff isn’t enough. I hope Georgia beats Bama, Michigan beats Ohio St, Wake and Cincy wins out, and Tennessee beats Kentucky

At this point OK can’t complain about their ranking. They have not played a team currently in the Top 25. They need Baylor and OKS to keep winning. Cincinnati actually has better wins than OK at this point. That could change but going to have to let it play out. People keep saying Wake will get in over Cincinnati because they are in ACC. Problem is ACC sucks this year. Wake has not played a team currently ranked. Their play NC St which is ranked so this year being in the ACC and being undefeated is not a giant boost.

ACC sucks pretty much every year. Like I mentioned before let Wake trade records and schedule with Clemson and Clemson is a Top 2 team. It’s about name and money

We’ll see what happens the rest of the season, but you are absolutely right. Change Wake Forest to Clemson and they are in the top 4. The hypocrisy is rich.

If we can’t beat FLA or Ole Miss I wouldn’t give us much of a chance against MSU. We also lost to Pitt, at home.

It would be a game but we don’t have the depth to finish it.

MSU is just a well coached team with a blue collar mentality. I also don’t think we could beat Michigan either.

I think we matchup well with Michigan State more than other teams. We defend the run the well for the most part, their QB is not a dynamic runner which has given us nightmares, their pass D is ranked in the 120’s giving up over 320 yds/gm. I think we could handle ourselves pretty well against them. TBH, Sparty was a 4th and 4 incomplete pass from being blown out vs Michigan. Have to give them credit for coming up with that big pass play and coming back from that deficit .

If Michigan St, UGA, WF, and OK run the table that should be the 4 teams IMO. That is 4 undefeated conference champions.

The 2 loss teams would be out. So Minnesota wouldn’t even be in the final playoff discussion.

Unfortunately for Cincinnati at this point based on what we currently see, any undefeated power 5 conference is probably pushing them out.

Which leaves the last spot between 1-loss Oregon and undefeated Wake Forest.
Oregon has the better win in Ohio State…but based on the CFP committee, the rest of their conference schedule seems to be viewed pretty poorly (based on the lack of other ranked Pac-12 teams appearing in the rankings)…plus there’s the loss to a currently 3-5 Stanford.

By the CFP’s own rankings and metrics, they now have Wake Forest playing another team probably ranked in the mid-teens when they play in two weeks (NC State). If Pittsburgh wins out, that would be a 2nd ranked team Wake Forest would have played and beaten.

With the committee’s seeming to favor the overall schedule strength, I would have to think that even though Oregon has the better single win, the 2-ranked teams now upping Wake Forest’s schedule combined with one team having won 13 games (zero losses) compared to the other having won 12 games but having one loss…all that would probably boost Wake Forest between the two.

So Oklahoma and Wake Forest.

Though, it’s really worth pointing out how fluid CFP rankings are. Each set is pretty much “if this season ended right now, here are what the playoff teams would look like” as opposed to the AP and Coaches polls “here’s the ranking of teams predicting the final ranking order based off of the previous week’s activity.” The order of the list might still shift around in future rankings due to things like a team’s strength of schedule improving after playing and beating a ranked team that week (not to mention the big boost awarded to winning the conference). So we might still see teams like OU, Oregon, Ohio State, Wake Forest, and Notre Dame shifting around a bunch - in both directions - over the upcoming weeks as aspects of the remaining games get factored into these rankings.

Good points! I believe you're right about Oklahoma. If they win out they're probably replacing Oregon based on OU's opponents left. The next month is gonna be interesting.

MSU beat Nebraska and Indiana by a combined 8 points. We would have a decent shot.

I think if Cincinnati goes undefeated, they by all rights should be in the picture. Lets answer this question once and for all, should anyone outside the power 5 be given the opportunity. If they play well and give a good account of themselves, then stronger consideration for their conferences must come into play.

The committee likes big flashy things. Oregon beating OSU in the Shoe despite a bad loss is more impressive to this group than a bunch of decent-to-mediocre wins and no signature flashy one, even if you're still undefeated. Just how these weirdos think.

I know Oklahoma fits into your point, but I'm completely okay with them being on the outside looking in. They have looked unimpressive against an objectively terrible schedule.

The rankings are total BS!
It's all opinion on who the top 4 teams are....and being voted on by a bunch of morons.

Take the freaking winner of each P5 conference and 3 at-large teams and have an 8 team playoff. Jeez it's so simple.

Who would pick the 3 at-large?

Me and you.............we could do better than the guys doing it now.

I have had very few issues with the committee's picks over the 7 years of the CFP. I think they're doing fine. People get all bent out of shape over the first few reveals when it's clear that it's not going to stay the same, so no one really ought to care.

I still have some issues with the rankings. Bama should probably be in the top 4, but I don't agree with them at #2. I would put MSU ahead of them. That is a minor quibble though, as the top 4 all get in.

Not really worried about the Big 10 teams, that will sort itself out in the coming weeks. Potentially the same with Bama/UGA. I do think UGA should get in no matter what if they run the table in the regular season. They are clearly one of the best teams in the nation, if not the best.

I actually agree with all of that. I think the committee put Bama at 2 knowing it would spur debate and knowing that it would work itself out no matter what.

Looks like the committee is propping Baylor up to give Oklahoma another potential quality win. Most of us Baylor fans expected to drop below #20 after losing to craptastic TCU. BYU is owning the PAC this season so our win over them is probably the committee's excuse.
