I know I am not the most popular poster on this site!
I UNDERSTAND THIS!

But....... for any fan of UT, Bama, UF, LSU, or, UGA to EVER pull for Auburn in a NC game is STUPID!

Why would anyone pull for a rival to help that team????? This year or next year in recruiting?

I will ( as a UT Fan ) pull for Vandy and Miss St against anyone else....they have zero chance of winning a NC! The last 5 NC's have come from the SEC.....LSU, UF, Bama, and now UA....How does this HELP UT?????? Kids that are looking at each of those schools are going to the team that has the best chance of winning! It is not UT....as of now.

Real fans don't pull for a rival to win ANY game.

Would you rather be the 8th best team in the best conf......or the best team in any conf???? I know where I would rather be! Those that pulled for Auburn are idiots!...unless you are an Auburn FAN!

I would rather compete with the best vs being the best of what's left anytime.

We've always played soft in the secondary. As far as I can recall. Give up big plays, then try and hold 'em on downs. Part of the reason our D coordinator is also know as Allow-a-lotti.

lol...well I didn't know that. Congrats on a great season.:hi:

Colt Mccoy took a routine hit and was done. He never got hit like that ever in the big 12. Simms took shot 5 times harder 15 times per game and still kept going.

Sam Bradford likely disagrees that his conference doesn't hit as hard

I love being associated with a conference that's hands down the best anywhere.

I love knowing that IF my Alma mater is fortunate enough to win the conference with at worst one loss, there's a damn good chance we get to play for a national title.

With the exception of UGA, I would want any of my SEC brothers to win he national title if UF couldn't. Sure, I want to curbstomp you guys during the regular season, but during the bowls I'm an SEC guy all the way.

Being a big fish in a small pond hasn't worked out so well for the Ohio States and Oregons lately.

how not? They've played for the big prize with inferior teams. I'd say that's working out perfectly.

Auburn is the lone instance of an SEC team being snubbed and it's unlikely to happen again, regardless of outcome of the title games.

If you consider losing the national title game to a battle tested, superior opponent to be a good thing, then sure.

Beats the same quality of team getting 3 or 4 losses and maybe not even making a BCS bowl.

Do you think Oregon is a better team than Alabama? Arkansas? Significantly better than South Carolina? I honestly don't.

This!!! is why we need a playoff!

what is a better alternative for a team that isn't the best in the country?

There is no better alternative. Making the title game and losing to an SEC team is about as good as it gets for upstarts like Oregon. Hell, traditional powers like Ohio State, Texas and Oklahoma haven't done much better recently.

I'm of the opinion that being associated with this conference is good for the conference and everyone in it. If you run the regular season gauntlet, you're all but assured a spot in the title game, and you can't argue with the results.

Good recruiters can exploit the "we play the best teams every year" angle with high school kids, and those who buy in are likely the ultra-competitive types you need in your program to be successful.

It's not happening for quite some time, although it would be nice.

I agree South Carolina and Alabama are as good as Oregon, but even if we had a playoff chances are those teams wouldn't meet. Given IPOrange's example, in an 8-team format, you would still have the same "who's better" discussion. Using this season as an example, Auburn (SEC champ) and maybe LSU (at-large) would represent the SEC.

Would that really end it? IF a so-so 8-4 USF barely beats a 12-0 Oklahoma and moves on there'd still be screaming that USF was not "really" the better team.

I'm forgetting my CFB history but was there not a playoff system years ago BUT the teams were hand picked as opposed to a ranking system? Meaning even when D1 had a playoff system teams still got screwed?

I agree with all of this except S. Carolina

Oregon's better than South Carolina, comparable to Arkansas.

The same one that defeated florida one game earlier?

Yep....irrelevant, but yep.

The guy I quoted (mchandl7?) was critical of Bama's most recent title because Texas was without their starting QB...which is ironic because UT won its last title against an FSU team without its starting QB.
