It's not happening for quite some time, although it would be nice.

I agree South Carolina and Alabama are as good as Oregon, but even if we had a playoff chances are those teams wouldn't meet. Given IPOrange's example, in an 8-team format, you would still have the same "who's better" discussion. Using this season as an example, Auburn (SEC champ) and maybe LSU (at-large) would represent the SEC.

Well, I prefer a 16 team format...even with that, somebody will be left out. However, the folks arguing will be arguing about teams that lost 3 games not about whether an undefeated team like TCU "deserves" to be in or not. Even a plus-one would be better than the current system. Apologies for the hijack.

Would that really end it? IF a so-so 8-4 USF barely beats a 12-0 Oklahoma and moves on there'd still be screaming that USF was not "really" the better team.

"Barely beats" and "moves on" is all that is necessary to me. It takes it from the water cooler onto the field. Scream all you want, on that hypothetical day USF was the better team.

Looked like an even match to me. 19-19 in the closing seconds.... They are both great teams loaded with talent. Oregon is closing the gap. Oregon can go toe to toe with any team. The OU's and OSU's have made the SEC look real good.

cal has one of the top 2 or 3 dlines in the country. and that is what one needs to stop oregon.

all last night proved is what i've been saying all along. the pac-10 sucked and this oregon team wouldn't have run the table in many other years.

Since when?

When Cal played anyone decent, their D line got pounded.

Does it REALLY matter who I pull for? I mean if the VOLS aren't one of the teams participating, does it really matter? Auburn and Oregon playing in a mythical B.ullC.rapS.ystem championship game, probably effects recruiting, but not because I'm pulling for one or the other.

As for the rest...Ask Vandy if they prefer to be the 12th best team in the best conference, receiving their share of revenue, or whether they'd prefer to be Kings of the Sun Belt Conference.

Ok ..........UT should be happy that LSU, Bama, UF, and, Auburn have won the last 5 NC's. UT is happy to get big $$$$$'s for being an also-ran in the SEC? A real fan would never pull for another SEC school (with the ability to win ....ie... MSU, Vandy, Ole Miss, or UK)

BTW...Bull crap NC game?????.....who would you have had in the game?

A playoff system is simple.......but AD's, Presidents, and coaches dont want to do it! The best two teams played......I just wish UO had won.

16 team playoff is easy

11 D1 conf champs
5 at large teams invited

use the bcs to set the games. seed 1-16, 2-15, etc.....

If Auburn plays the sun Belt champ in the first round....fine.

It could be real simple. And still have bowl games.

Trust me, I'm a "real fan" lol. I can't speak to UT's state of mind. As for me, I don't really care who won the other night, or the last 5 so called championships. If Tennessee isin't playing, I'm just a football fan, I tend to root for underdogs.

As for the AD's and Presidents and Coaches, and let's add Conference Commisioners to that list...Who do you think created the BCS?

Which of those folks don't want a play-off? Here's a hint: which ones don't have a conference championship game? Why don't they have one? Apologies if you already know this. Mike Slive is not one of them, he actually proposed some type of play-off in the past. So did Vince Dooley.

Oh I almost forgot, let's not leave out the Bowl game reps, more than anyone, they don't want a play-off...heck, they don't even want us to discuss it.

Just so you know, I was rooting for Oregon...I like the unis...jk. Nah the only thing worse than a corrupt bowl system is a dad that sells his son to a college(allegedly), that's hard to root for.

Why would the NCAA "farm" out their biggest cash cow? They oversee every other Championship, all with some sort of play-off. That's all they're really good at.

I rescind my previous post. UO would mop the floor with us.

Because Oregon lost in the final seconds by a few points?

I think your post just proves that Oregon could beat the Steelers in the Super Bowl and you would still find some way to rationalize it as being less of an accomplishment.

Butt hurt any?

Oregon losing this game on a last-second field goal does not mean they suck. They'll have another chance to validate the high ratings they receive when they open up with LSU next season.

Kelly needs to prove to me that he can get the team to score against a great defensive line...not really sure how we will do.

This is why I wish the game would have been the week after the SEC CG. Both offenses were rolling. I think the resuly may have been a bit different had it been played then.

I dunno. I'm just tired of Chip Kelly teams not executing against great defensive lines. See Boise '09, OSU in the Rose Bowl, Cal '10, and the BCSNCG.

I think he can get it to work. The key is just getting out to a fast start, which is difficult to do against the teams with good d-lines.

IMO the system is good to win 10 games a year, but it's not going to win any national titles. National championship teams can line it up with elite talent and size and run it down peoples throats, Oregon is too small for that.

Posting appears to be functioning correctly to me. Thank you.

No. Why should I be?

The Ducks had a great season and lost the NC game by a hair. They return most key players, bring in several good new ones and
are currently hauling in a great recruiting
class.

So if that one guy hadn't of shaved his head, Oregon would have won?

We're getting some bigger and better recruits. This class is set to be the best in school history....we shall see.

The thing is, the best class in Oregon's history wouldn't even be a blip on the radar for the powers of collegiate football. It's a step in the right direction though.

In my opinion, the 12 class will tell me all I need to know about the future of the program.

Last I saw, the class was ranked 7th...think that's pretty decent.
