Tony B. Booted By 1180 AM

they are lazy the pod casts are how you would listen to the shows you miss not the same 4 hour loop of the last ea show that aired before they take time off.

What does that make sports animal then? They fill their downtime with Farrell and co.

Sports animal being owned by a media conglomerate really helps them in that they get fed deals like their deal with CBS sports. TSR doesn't really have that luxury and its probably just a business move to maximize profit.

If you took out the CBS radio time, the amount of time that TSR is live and sports animal is live would be much more comparable.

Not to get in the middle of the debate, but Sports Animal has the luxury of airing UT Sports and The Smokies games...Sometimes they have a softball game, a baseball game or a smokies game across their AM and FM channels at the same time. TSR can't compete with that, maybe their thought is... why try.

So is Tony gone for good now? They cut off the 2nd hour of his show today, right after Cattleman was on talking about him going to other stations.

Poor Knoxville. Talk radio in your fair city sucks in a big way. There is not one quality talk radio program or personality on the air there. The first thing to help Knoxville listeners out is to make the radio stations stop airing the shows from the station broom closets.

I drive to work at 4am, and work at a place where I can't podcast it. Its nice to catch a little bit of the show when I'm driving home or running errands after work without fooling with my phone.

I realize it can be perceived as lazy but I'm not exactly sure what you would have a daytime AM do. Its a smaller operation without an outfit like Cumulus behind them. They can't exactly pay for more talent to work hours when part of the year they'd be online only. I don't blame them for re-running the content they seem to have the most faith in until they can grow past that hurdle.

They are a station in their infancy. I truly think they grow over time to compete, but it will take a while. I'm fairly sure Cumulus will make sure they can compete, given some of their absolute lunacy around the country.

That's kind of my point. Rather than devoting any time at all to the softball team, who happens to be playing for a national championship, who would be the lowest seeded team to ever win a championship or any mention of Ellen Renfroe's stunning performance versus the #1 team in the country...They devote hours of air time to a team that started off the 1988 season by going 0-6, including a loss to Duke. I had a friend on that team and I still don't want to be reminded of that season.

I guess I wasn't listening exactly when you were, but when I was, I heard Ainge and Swain both talk about the softball game a ton on their shows.

chris treece show is terrible. the intro is even worse. can't figure why you would take sound clips from two horrible movies and make an intro for your show. with all the hundreds of great movies out there with motivational speech in them, he chooses those two movies. I'd rather listen to the beginning of the movie Patton. anyways, Chris Treece is about chris treece and it gets pretty old.

I hope TB finds a home before football season, he's great entertainment with a lot of big orange passion and a little football knowledge. still rather listen to 1180 than the animal, you could replace that computer weather voice with most of the animal hosts and there wouldn't be much difference.

Yes the Treece show is awful. Jaybay is ruining the Ainge show. You can tell he is a jock sniffer and adds nothing. Must be nice owning your own radio station.

Tony B. is the reason there is any alternative to 990 in Knoxville today. Had TB had some financial support in the past from a medium like The Sports Animal he'd be a hit. This town is simply too inbred and has no idea what constitutes radio entertainment. Heck, most of the homers around here would listen if you just read the roster info out of the press guide.
TSR is quickly becoming a hang out for former players, and at the end of the day, that will not equal good radio.

Honestly didn't mean to be snarky. I just found your certainty rather odd. You could be right. I'm in media too and I see affiliates bought and sold and overhauled all the time, so I was just offering my own insight.

Got ya. You are correct - happens a lot. I wonder if Cumulus would ever sell off WNML.

The difference here is that when you have a national show on, it's still something new (and actually, in the case of the Sports Animal, it's much preferable to their local programs), whereas with TSR it's just a re-run (which I've never heard a real sports station in any respectable market doing, save maybe for a holiday or to fill the middle of the night time slots).

I like TSR. I hope they succeed. But I can't imagine that it's a good way to grow your station or build your audience by airing more re-runs. I mean, in a given week, I'll hear some segments of the Erik Ainge show 2 or 3 times. And I don't listen to radio much at all. I can only imagine what it's like for people who will listen for hours each day. In that sense, it was nice to have Tony Basilio on, even if it was one of his bad days, just to add something different and current.

If Tony was any good he would still have a job. He's gotten no bigger than the same eight callers daily. Nobody wants him unless he moves across town and takes the same sorry callers with him. Just saying. He can always go to Nashville and sit on Clay Travis lap.

You are a brain donor and an ******* all at the same time.. fairly impressive feat.

Everybody keeping it real...just stop listening....I bet TSR manages to stay afloat without you...yeah their vision is a Volunteer homer station...hence the name...Dave Hooker is great when he's on Ainge...I don't see him sparing us when he replaces Tony...Titansville ain't going nowhere and we'll see how long Cattleman can go without his fix...if Hooker doesn't give him air time he'll probably chain himself to the Summit statue when it's finished and hold an anti-Jaybay hunger strike...be entertaining to see how long his rants last without Frito pies and Mello Yello:popcorn:

Regular Saturday show guys on TSR are also gone.....

They actually had (key word "had") a pretty good show....

The new guys are struggling mightily. Their first caller thought he was calling Steven Pearl's show and the second caller said UT would be Florida in football this year! I mean "REALLY"????

Dave Hooker is terrible. Irony is he's a graduate of Basilio Broadcasting School. Can't ever trust a ginger.

1180 should air the 3HL in the afternoons and drub the WNML in the ratings.

Tony will land on his feet like he always has....and all his callers and listeners will follow along with Tony's loyal sponsors. TSR will continue to survive but whatever show goes up against Tony's new time slot elsewhere will not be on my radar.
