Tony Dungy Stepping down

i think the ravens were a better team than the titans, the giants were better than the eagles, and the panthers were better than the cardinals. how can that possibly be inconsistent? the best team doesn't always win, just the best team on that day. maybe, i just need a better view of my inconsistency because i can't see it.
I guess I just don't know why the Ravens would be considered a better team than the Titans this year while the Giants are considered better than the Eagles. Baltimore and Tennessee split their two games while Philadelphia took two out of three against New York.

I mean, both the Titans and Giants had better records than the teams they lost to in the playoffs through the regular season and beat those teams once as well. I just don't know how you could think of Baltimore as better than Tennessee while also thinking New York is better than Philadelphia, especially when the Eagles beat the Giants twice.

that's just it. it's all an opinion and it really doesn't matter. i think the giants win that game if plaxico burress wasn't an idiot. tennessee wins that game with a healthy chris johnson but without him the ravens are better.

are we seriously arguing if tony dungy is good?

Come on, you dont win 12+ 6 straight years, make it to the playoffs 10 straight years and not be a good coach. He has never had the strongest defense, so he changed the colts defense to a dime/nickel defense. Never had the best Rb's so the colts are a throwing team. He made a household name out of a team that some people in indy havent even heard of. He won a superbowl against one of the best defenses of the decade, when they said the colts cant play outside of a dome. He has not one, not two, but THREE Apprentices coaching, Tomlin makes to the AFC championship game, Smith makes makes it to Superbowl XLI, and Edwards is coaching the chiefs.

your right, tony dungy sucks, stupid titans fans

Ironically enough, the people that are arguing against Dungy in this thread (and they're not even saying he was a bad/not good coach) aren't, to my knowledge at least, Titans fans.

He's a good coach. He's just not a great coach, like all these mouthbreathers who act like Don Shula just retired seem to think. Great coaches win in the playoffs -- especially when they have the better team, as Dungy did most of the time. I really don't get why Colts fans are so disappointed to see him go -- when you have the team that Dungy has had during his time in Indy, you're supposed to have a lot more to show for it than one trip to the Super Bowl and one other trip to the AFC championship game. Does having a coach who's so universally regarded as a good guy, a man of faith, etc., make up for bowing out in your first playoff game most of the time?

I'm certainly not a Titans fan. I'm not a Colts fan either, but I like them all right, and even I'm sick of watching them blow it in the playoffs every year. I sure can't understand why somebody who's an actual fan of the team would be satisfied with what they've seen in January during Dungy's tenure.

Tony Dungy is a class act and a good coach, but you have to admit he wasn't a very good playoff coach. 2003 and 2006 his playoff teams were good, the rest not so much. 3 of his last 4 years were 1 and done in the playoffs. And the problem is most of the time, the playoff team looked nothing like the great regular season team. 2005 the Colts looked awful against the same Steelers team they easily beat in the regular season. In 2007 they came out very unprepared and lost to an inferior Chargers team, and again this year they lost to an inferior Chargers team. I don't care where the game was played, the Colts should have won.

He won a Super Bowl and so you can't take that away from him, but let's be honest, he should have 2 Super Bowl rings minimum if not 3 with the teams he's had. He made the Colts the Atlanta Braves of the NFL.
