Tony Romo just said about Heupel

Can anyone even name a successful coach that has jumped to the NFL from college in recent memory? I can think of Spurrier, Saban, Matt Rhule, Kliff Kingsbury, Bobby Petrino, Pete Carroll, Chip Kelly, Doug Marrone, Urban Meyer, and Bill O'Brien. Only Pete Carroll has had true success, O'Brien had a solid run overall, jury's still out on Kingsbury. Harbaugh also was good.

Never forget that here in Tennessee He gets to keep more of his $$$$$ because we don't have a state income tax like most other states have.

That's another financial reason for him to stay in K town and coach in the SEC.

His next contract needs to add in that he can NOT leave my beloved Vols until after I die.

That could happen any day though, LOL!

I said after the alaBubba game that our AD needs to raise more $$$$$$ so he can give ALL our coaches a $1 Million a year raise starting next season.

We have a GREAT coaching staff and we do NOT need to lose any of them!!!

VFL...GBO!!!

The college game seems to suit Josh better. He's all about family...love...growing teams through strong personal relationships...he seems to genuinely love recruiting (though no one can love the long hours it takes). He seems to want to have a mentoring relationship with his lads (and his assistant coaches).

All of that seems to be in his DNA. And screams at a better fit in college than the pros.

I can't pretend to know his mind. Only he knows if this is an ambition he harbors, and whether it is a weak one or a strong one.

But I think, all other things being equal, he's more likely than not to tend in the direction of staying at the college level for life.

Go Vols!

He's also from South Dakota. He says he and his family love Knoxville and UT. I don't see him as a guy who would like a big city...even the smaller market NFL cities like Nashville or Kansas City are bigger than what he's used to and seems to prefer.

Go coach a bunch of overpaid entitled babies, that give half azz effort every week because they wipe their butts with 100 dollar bills. Sounds like a dream job to me.. Oh yeah they make far more money than the coach too. That's a different world all together.

Jimmy Johnson is probably the best.

As a head coach, life is much easier in the NFL than college. That’s really the only draw. You don’t have to recruit 24/7 365. Other than that, College beats Pro in every other facet.

So, unless he hates recruiting, which I don’t see, or they offer him some Jimbo Fisher fully guaranteed contract, he won’t leave
except you are told what players you have....you can't go out and recruit all the best ones.

"NFL teams are interested, not saying he'll go", but said "just telling you, he's on the radar of every NFL team".. Jim Nantz followed "I know you and I know you know something" Romo followed up saying "he's wanted in the NFL"

Wow... Pay him, now. Alot.

Agree...bring out the piggy bank...now!!!

All of the successful college coaches that people want to point to as examples of failed NFL careers thought their dictatorship style of team management would work in a locker room full of grown men. That style does not work in today’s NFL and I question how much longer it works in college with NIL.

Don’t kid yourself if he decides to make that move Heupel would kill in the NFL. Heupel has an innovative offensive mind but more importantly he would be successful because he is personable, relatable, and he truly loves his players. He would be successful because he is the embodiment of a player-coach that knows how to make everyone around him better.

One thing stands out to me about Heupel and going/being in the NFL versus college.
In college the players are much more in tune with wanting to be coached and accepting that critic.
Whereas in the NFL players seem to think more that they know what to do and are not as accepting of that coaching criticism.

Heupel has always stated he loves the college game because of the players and the guys' desire to learn and be coached.
For that alone, I don't think CJH ever tests the NFL waters.

I dunno, his speed attack, spread everyone out, attack attack attack format would be devastating in the NFL due to their roster limitations for depth. Colleges have WAY more players than the NFL is allowed, I think his offense would be incorporated soon regardless of if it’s him that does it.

Chip Kelly already tried a fast paced offense with the Eagles. It worked well for a bit, but he soon fell flat on his ass

Not just paying Heupel, but all the coaches. If that offensive line wasn't what they are this year none of this would be happening. About the only way to stop us is to get to Hooker.

But the defense has been stout besides the secondary. We've had some banged up or out for different reasons at that position but I have seen a huge improvement there as well. Slaughter to corner was a absolute genius move.
