Would absolutely love to see @UT_Baseball transition to Division I at some point, too. Outstanding baseball tradition there. Would compete.

those guys behind the scenes do a great job. I would imagine they spend just as much time if not more at the ball feild then the players...

SportsTalk | WNML-AF

The other day CDS hosted Sports Talk with John Wilkerson. There was an interview with Nick Senzel and then later in the show Nick's dad, Jeff, calls in to the show.

In my opinion it's must listen stuff for Vols Baseball fans. I meant to post it earlier but it slipped my mind. Anyway...give it a listen.

Jeff's endorsement of Serrano was pretty darn compelling. Thanks for sharing.

Good stuff, thanks for posting. I like how Coach Serrano corrected Jeff when he said coach called Nick after the decommit.

Report: Tennessee freshman receiver has left the program

Never saw this guy on the roster or as a 2016 recruit.....

Report: Tennessee freshman receiver has left the program

Two-sport athlete Vincent Perry has left the Volunteers according to a report.

Multiple sources told GoVols247’s John Brice that Perry does not intend to return to Tennessee after the holiday break and will concentrate on baseball at his new school. The report states that academics kept him from playing baseball at UT in the spring, but he posted better grades in the fall semester.

Perry a Hillsboro product out of Nashville, did not play this season. Brice’s sources suggest that Perry was dealing with an injury. The freshman wide receiver was a three-star recruit.

Pretty sure he was a 2015 recruit that was hurt last year and then the academics this year. Appears to have been a top 15 baseball player in the state the year he came out.

Awesome! I tried everything I know which is limited at best and couldn't get it embedded either. Maybe the Russians will step in and hack the system for us. :)

Would make for a great "Sticky".....

You mentioned Russians and hacking, your phone is now tapped.

Bad news for #UNC: Jr. Hunter Williams is no longer on the team. Unclear where he’ll land. Power LHP up to mid-90s. No. 16 prospect in Cape.

Told @DiamondHeels hard-throwing LHP Hunter Williams, who is leaving, cannot go DII or NAIA. Will sign as free agent or wait for #mlbdraft.

Wow, no Mississippi State or Ole Miss.

Wow, no Mississippi State or Ole Miss.

Here you go NorCal, the other 10.......

So which 10 teams just missed our preseason Top 25 rankings? National writers Aaron Fitt and Kendall Rogers list their Next 10 (in alphabetical order):

Arkansas: There’s no doubt the Razorbacks have some question marks from an offensive standpoint, but the pitching staff under Wes Johnson has strong potential. Isaiah Campbell and Blaine Knight showed powerful and consistent arms during the fall, while JC transfer Trevor Stephan is a mid-90s arm with big-time potential. It’s all about the offense with this team.

Dallas Baptist University: While Jameson Hannah and others lead the charge offensively, the Patriots have a wealth of potential on the mound with the return of several premier arms, including righty closer Seth Elledge, who showed mid-90s heat during the fall. DBU has all the weapons needed to be a potential Omaha surprise in a few months.

Houston Cougars: The Cougars have some question marks on the offensive side of things, but there’s a lot of potential with Todd Whitting’s pitching staff. Lefties Seth Romero and Trey Cumbie are ready to be one of the nation’s better one-two punches, while Fred Villareal and John King spearhead what will be a hard-nosed bullpen with some power.

Oklahoma State University: The Cowboys will miss stars Donnie Walton and Thomas Hatch, but their pitching staff retains an experienced, talented core in Tyler Buffett, Jensen Elliott, Blake Battenfield and Trey Cobb. If veterans like Dustin Williams, Ryan Sluder and Jon Littell can bounce back from underwhelming 2016 seasons and perform up to their talent, Oklahoma State has a chance to make another Omaha run.

Ole Miss: The Rebels will rely on several freshmen — four to be exact — in the starting lineup, but all four are talented and can be instant impacts. For us, the question is the weekend rotation. While Brady Feigl and Will Stokes make up a stout back-end of the bullpen, David Parkinson and James McArthur must step up to take some pressure off projected No. 3 starter, freshman Ryan Rolison.

Mississippi State: The Bulldogs lost a great deal of talent from last year’s super regional team, but dynamic sophomore Jake Mangum, slugger Brent Rooker and hard-nosed shortstop Ryan Gridley are back to lead a lineup that should still be plenty dangerous. Konnor Pilkington looks ready to assume the Friday starter role after a standout summer in the Cape, Keegan James looks poised to bring another power arm to the rotation after a big summer in the Valley League, while hard-throwing vet Blake Smith and nasty sidewinder Ryan Rigby return to anchor the bullpen.

Nebraska Cornhuskers: The Cornhuskers bring back a dangerous veteran core from a regional team in 1B Ben Miller and OFs Jake Meyers and Scott Schreiber; if talented OF Luis Alvarado can tap into his raw talent and former UNC infielder Alex Raburn can hold down the shortstop position, this lineup will be very good. Nebraska also features a proven one-two rotation punch (Matt Waldron and Derek Burkamper) and the Big Ten’s best closer (Chad Luensmann).

South Alabama: The Jaguars are loaded with up-the-middle talent in catcher Jared Barnes, shortstop Drew LaBounty and center fielder Travis Swaggerty. And even after losing ace Kevin Hill, this pitching staff is chock full of quality arms, led by ace lefty Randy Bell and righties Avery Geyer and Tyler Carr (a duo that could anchor South Alabama’s deep bullpen).

Texas: A new era begins in Austin with coach David Pierce moving over from Tulane. While the Longhorns certainly have some question marks, they have some real promise thanks in part to an impressive returning weekend rotation with Morgan Cooper, Kyle Johnston and Connor Mayes leading the charge. For UT, it’s all about how the offense improves from last season.

UCLA: A few big injuries and a few key players underachieving led to a dismal 2016 season for the Bruins, but don’t expect them to stay down for long. Griffin Canning and Jake Bird should make for a formidable one-two punch atop an improved pitching staff, and talented freshmen Chase Strumpf, Ryan Kriedler and Michael Toglia will give the lineup some sorely needed reinforcements.

with a few weeks left before the 1st game, here is the Memphis review....

Projected 2017 order of finish in The American Conference:

East Carolina
Houston
Tulane
Connecticut
Cincinnati
Memphis
South Florida
UCF

Projected Regional Teams (3): East Carolina, Houston, Tulane

Top Prospects, 2017 Draft
#4 Colton Hathcock RHP Memphis
#19 Drew Crosby LHP Memphis

Top Prospects, 2018 Draft
#5 Jonathan Bowlan RHP Memphis

Impact Freshman
#18 Alec Trela SS Memphis

Memphis followed up a 37-win 2015 campaign by falling flat in a 22-win 2016 season, but the coaches were encouraged by how their young players performed down the stretch last year and this fall, and they believe this has a chance to be their best team in the last six years. The most exciting thing about the roster is a collective of very intriguing power arms, giving the Tigers significant upside. RHP Colton Hathcock (5-8, 3.94) has a durable workhorse frame, a smooth delivery and a power arm that produces 90-94 mph heat, a good 82 mph slider, a solid changeup and a cutter that is new to his arsenal. LHP Drew Crosby has good angle that makes his 88-91 fastball play up, along with a promising high-70s slurve and a decent changeup that keeps righties honest. RHP Connor Alexander relies on his heavy sinker at 87-89, and the Tigers think he’s ready to take a step forward after replacing his poor curveball with a serviceable slider. The X-factor is So. RHP Jonathan Bowlan, a physical 6-foot-6 behemoth who showed 91-93 heat and a nice 82-86 slider in the Valley League all-star game last summer. If he harnesses his command, he could emerge as a front-line starter alongside Hathcock. So the Tigers feel good about their starting pitching, but they’re still looking for a couple of shutdown options to emerge in the bullpen. The leading candidates are quick-armed LHP Colton Neel and tall sinkerballer Alex Hicks.

The lineup is built around 2B Brandon Grudzielanek (.292/.321/.373), a mature gap-to-gap hitter with emerging pop, and RF Chris Carrier (.280/.351/.467, 6 HR), the team’s most accomplished run producer. The Tigers are predicting a huge year from Carrier, who is still tapping into his power potential. Juco transfer Tyler Webb proved even better than the coaches expected in the fall, and he looks likely to start in center field and serve as another key middle-of-the-order run producer. Catcher Jason Santana was one of Memphis’ most improved players in the fall; his calling card is his defense, but he also showed real signs of life with the bat. To be strong up the middle, Memphis will also need freshman SS Alec Trela to hit the ground running; he’s a physical infielder who lacks foot speed but makes up for it with good instincts and offensive upside.
