Top 5 Historical Films (sort of) imho

During my Christmas break vacation I had a bit of the flu virus so I watched a lot of movies, hard to argue with these 5 films:

1) The Gladiator
2) Braveheart
3) Saving Private Ryan
4) We Were Soldiers
5) Last of the Mohicans (Daniel Day Lewis version)

*if you have never seen the "Boy in the Striped Pajamas" it is a relatively recent film that wasn't highly publicized but is a great movie*

Braveheart is disgustingly innacurate, outside of most of the characters existing. Not a bad flick but being a history nut it's hard to overlook.

Reservoir Dogs isn't even a top 5 QT movie and Fight Club is way overrated. Never seen the other 3,i doubt im missing anything based on these 2.


I agree with OP about The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, good movie.

I don't know, but Saving Private Ryan is one of them.

If we are talking favorite movies and not historical then id have Inglorious Basterds and Django in there, maybe Remember the Titans and Captain Phillips.

I liked Pulp Fiction a lot better than Reservoir Dogs

True Romance was his best movie, but I still like Resevior Dogs a lot more than pulp fiction.

War movies would almost have to have it's own category but yeah, Patton and Midway have to be avoided unless I'm ready to ride it out to the end. If I watch more than 2 minutes of either I'm screwed. Reminds me, I really need to watch Letters from Iwo Jima again soon. Anyway, ton of war based historical movies.

Lawrence of Arabia and All The President's Men are certainly classics. The Right Stuff. Catch Me if You Can is a pretty amazing story. Remember the Titans.

Crap...they're really starting to pile up in my head. One I really want to see is The Last King of Scotland.

It's funny you mention Wyatt Earp...I'm more partial to Tombstone.
