Top 5 Historical Films (sort of) imho

All this just reminded me of when Disney's Pocahontas came out and some folks were griping about the historical inaccuracies. I remember Mel Gibson was doing an interview during the press junket and said something to the effect of, "Historical accuracy?? There's a ****ing talking raccoon in this movie!"

Reservoir Dogs isn't even a top 5 QT movie and Fight Club is way overrated. Never seen the other 3,i doubt im missing anything based on these 2.

I agree with OP about The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, good movie.

Plenty of people would list Reservoir Dogs and Fight Club in their top 10, me included.

Back on topic, I thought Zero Dark Thirty was very good.

What about that movie with the Mississippi recruit with Fulmer in it? Was that any hood? I guess that's not really "history" though. Still drawing a blank other than the war movies mentioned.

Historical era?
Historical events?
Historically accurate?
Based on actual events?

Blazing Saddles fits the era, not the others.

A League of Their Own Fits a couple.

During my Christmas break vacation I had a bit of the flu virus so I watched a lot of movies, hard to argue with these 5 films:

1) The Gladiator
2) Braveheart
3) Saving Private Ryan
4) We Were Soldiers
5) Last of the Mohicans (Daniel Day Lewis version)

*if you have never seen the "Boy in the Striped Pajamas" it is a relatively recent film that wasn't highly publicized but is a great movie*

I always felt Gladiator was just Braveheart in Rome. Overrated film imo.

Never watched We Were Soldiers but otherwise I mostly agree with your list. Would probably swap Spartacus for Gladiator and Apocalypse Now for We were soldiers.

Another good movie was 300 Spartans from 1962.

I never heard anything good about Alexander, so I didn't see it. Maybe will give it a shot.

I just like Gladiator more because the coliseum battles are so awesome and the villain is awesome. The villain in Braveheart is just there.

It is a completely fictional event from a book written about imperialism and has nothing to do with the Vietnam War or based on any semblance of actual events.

I mentioned AN to a friend in conversation once and he said that movie pissed him off because it was a total ripoff of Heart Of Darkness. I was a bit speechless.

Fwiw, I liked that movie a lot.

I agree wholeheartedly. Never cared for Gladiator and your comparison is dead on why. Spartacus was better than Gladiator, but I still didn't think it was anything special.

If Alexander really is a lot more accurate, looks I have a movie to watch this weekend.
