10 of my favorite historical films are(no necessarily in this order):
Spartacus
Waterloo
Patton
Zulu
All Quiet on the Western Front(1930 version)
Wyatt Earp
Tora,Tora,Tora
Midway
Hamburger Hill
King David
Agree, great flick.Zulu...with Michael Caine? One of the first grownup movies I remember watching as a kid. Loved that movie. I think I saw it on TBS late one night when I was about 9. Awesome movie that really captured the desperation of the Brits in that situation.
Agree, great flick.
I'm not a huge fan of the gore in current war movies, it seems more for shock value than storytelling.
Also add the 2 Cornelius Ryan based movies to my list, A Bridge Too Far coming in just ahead of The Longest Day
I have not seen those..thanks for reminding me...gotta get that doneAgree, great flick.

It's not necessarily a historical movie, but Band of Brothers is at the absolute top of my list.
A few other good history based movies that haven't been mentioned are The Patriot, Black Hawk Down and Schindler's List. Also, Gettysburg is a really good, historically accurate movie with the exception of the ridiculous fake beards.
