Top US General Publicly Disagrees With Trump Over Syria

It's going to take a President with a very strong backbone who doesn't care about politics to pull our troops out of Afghanistan. Both sides of the aisle are strongly against it. That man is Trump. We have no chance of Biden doing this. None

That is true. I just wonder how we approach going from essentially propping up two sovereign nations for 20 years to complete withdrawal. Do you just bite the bullet, admit we ****ed up, take the L and go home? We shouldn’t have been there in the first place, and now I feel like we’re stuck in a continuous cycle of cleaning **** up.

We shouldn't have invaded Iraq, Afghanistan is a completely different story. Our military has basically 1 purpose, kill people and break things. We should have laid waste to anything/everything Taliban and Al Qeada in Afghanistan and left. Since we did decide to invade Iraq, we shouldn't have disbanded it's Army after we toppled Saddam. We should have left it in tact and in charge then got the heck out.

Yeah. He tried pulling 50 troops out of Syria and all hell broke loose in his own party. His Defense Secretary quit on him. It was a mess.

Politically he couldn't afford to lose GOP support before the election. If he was a second term President he'd be in an ideal position to bring our boys home

So he's such a strong leader that he worries about what everyone thinks? Too bad he didn't think about the lives of the soldiers or the compete waste of money

Every President before a second term has to worry about re-election.

I don't think we "take a loss" in Afghanistan. In don't think anyone wins or loses there necessarily. Even the Soviets never really "lost" that war despite our propaganda saying otherwise.

One can only hope to put into power the government they desire, regardless of how shaky it might be and run like hell. It will descend into chaos after we leave and we have to accept that.

I don't believe we need to be there any longer since again, we have no clear mission any longer and haven't for a long time.

Don't confuse a non-interventionist with an isolationist

Of which I'm neither actually. I do believe in going to someone's front door and kicking them in the balls if they deserve it. I'm against endless occupations without a clear mission.

Apparently he gave orders to reduce troops in Syria and they were ignored. He did reduce troops in Afghanistan and Iraq from where they were when he took office.

I think of us as a 50s dad. If you start with too much monkey shines we'll smack you into next week. If you behave, it won't happen again. Do it again and we'll get the belt.

So on the one hand we desperately need to pull our troops back home because we have had enough of this war, fighting and dying in a sand box that will always be at war . On the other hand we desperatly need to stay in the sand box to fight and die because if we leave it will only get worse . It’s a no win situation and I don’t care who the president is . Being honest with ourselves here .. you can’t blame Trump on this either way , if we stay he’s just another Warhawk , if we leave he doesn’t care about our troops , our country or peace in the world .
... Ecred if you know what Clint Eastwood would call this after being asked to describe it by his superior officer .
Send them home.

That would be good. And make them clean up their room afterwards.

Sadly, not the case
