My eclipse forecast for East TN:

It should be great viewing weather for just about everyone in East TN. People in the higher elevation may see a stray shower or thunderstorm.

Typical east TN summer day. I don't understand people going to clingmans dome, Townsend or the skyway. I can see Chilhowee mountain from my house, this time of year if there's cloud cover it'll be over the mountains.Stay in the valley people.

I have crappy cell service tonight. Must be due to an influx of Moon tourists in the area overloading the system. Probably no beer or bread left at Kroger either.

I found a cool, free GPS eclipse app(Eclipse 2.0) and took a drive down Hardin Valley Rd this evening just to see what kind of results you'd get during the eclipse. These numbers were comparable to the "Solar Eclipse Timer" app which can be bought for $1.99.

The rear entrance to Pellissippi State Community College will give you approx.47 seconds of total eclipse duration.
Parking lots at Hardin Valley Elementary/Food City will give you 1 minute and 3 seconds of total eclipse duration.
Melton Hill Park will give you 1 minute and 8 seconds of total eclipse.
Covered Bridge neighborhood will give you 1 minute 17 seconds of total eclipse.

They are letting us watch it at work and even providing the glasses for us

Am I out of bounds to say that this thing sounds incredibly overrated?

I'm saying "sounds" because I've never actually seen one. I'm sure it is neat to take a moment to see and then go back to work. But all the travel, towns overwhelmed, schools closed - geez people.

Couldn't you say the same thing about a football game if you didn't care about football? I admit that it is an interesting reason to travel and not something I would do, but then again I'm not a stargazer. I am excited to see how surreal the atmosphere is.
